View Full Version : Rear door locks issue

I've been having problems with the rear door locks on my '97 Disco. When I unlock the car with the central locking, the rear doors don't unlock properly. The door lock knobs appear to be fully up, but when you go to open the door from the outside, the door begins to open but the lock knobs drop down a bit and lock the door in the door-not-shut-properly position, if you know what I mean. The strange part is that it only seems to happen when the car has been sitting outside in the sun and is hot.
I had the door skins off this morning and tried lowering the position of the actuator slightly and I also sprayed some lube on the lock knobs thinking that they possibly expand in their slots and it seems it may have worked for one of the doors but not the other (it could have just been luck that it worked when I tried it). My Dad (the previous owner) has also attached a small lump of lead to one of the arms as a cantilever weight to help hold the knob up on the offending door but to no avail. Has anybody else run into a similar problem and found a fix?

Most likely the rear door lock spring is broken.
Check these out, (or the like).
Land Rover Discovery Door Lock Repair Spring 5 door set | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Land-Rover-Discovery-Door-Lock-Repair-Spring-5-door-set-/200885355890?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2ec5b34572&_uhb=1#ht_990wt_1219)
If you remove the door lock assembly you will see whether the spring is broken.
