I bought my Disco nearly 3 years ago off a non-LR dealer who didn't tell me anything about the vehicle, didn't post photos and confessed to know nothing about Land Rovers except that people wanted to buy them. It was true - I looked at it and I bought it.

Today I'm looking at a for sale ad for another Disco and there's a photo that shows the model of after market fuel tank and I thought, "hey my fuel tank has that sticker on it too". No surprise, they're both Disco's with 90L tanks right? Wrong. The ad notes the 120L long range fuel tank installed.... Wait a minute. How many litres is that tank????

I went and looked under my Disco, found the model number TR47 engraved on it, googled it and BAM, according to the website my fuel tank is 120L. LOL :D

So that time I put 89L in thinking I was basically running on fumes, I probably had 30L left!!! hahaha

I'm both very excited I have a long range tank - I've always wanted one - and a little embarrassed I didn't even realise I had one!!

Stay tuned for the next twist where I run out of diesel at 90L and realise I was correct the first time. ;)

And the whole time you owned it you never just filled it up till it wouldn't take anymore?

I always fill it, but the problem is I'm not using the LAST 30L.

It went something like this: First tank, I got to somewhere between 1/4 and E. Filled up and it took ~85L. Seemed fair to assume that I had 5L left and the gauge was a little out, showing about 1/8 tank left. I had done ~850kms. Since then I've driven by kms thinking 900kms is about a full tank, not the fuel gauge as I wasn't sure how accurate it is.... It's a LR gauge remember!

Why would I drive more than 900kms after that?!? Seemed obvious I would run out of fuel!!! lol

Keep the reserve, and your fuel pump will last a lot longer than if you let it run low. These pumps seem to die a lot quicker when the fuel tank levels are low.

We have a 145 litre Brown Davis tank in ours and always filled it up at around the 100 to 110 litres mark - original fuel pump at over 300,000kms

so basically, the gauge is not calibrated correctly and reads zero when you still have 30 litres in it...

I like your gauge better than mine. Mine reads 3/4 full when nearly empty...
