As from my other posts, my main computer is cactus. Apparently it is too old to fit a new hard drive in. The bios cannot read the new drive. So... I have a reasonably good laptop with a smashed screen. I am using it now connected to my big screen. My question is.. can I physically remove the old laptop screen to get it out of the road? Jim:):)

you should be able to, once the case is apart, most of the laptop screens i have seen have been held on with 2 screws and a ribbon cable needs to be disconnected also
or if you aren't keen to pull it apart, you could use it with the screen folded down and buy a usb keyboard and mouse kit to use instead of the built in ones

It's somewhere between quite easy and bloody difficult, depending on the model. (I used to make a living out of it).
Why don't you look into getting the screen replaced? If it's a less recent model, then there will be second hand parts available quite cheaply.

No need to remove the laptop screen. Set it up so that it doesn't power off when the lid is closed and get yourself a wireless keyboard and mouse, that's what I do with my laptop when I have it downstairs and supposed to be working on my RRC, mainly because it stops all the dust and dirt getting into the laptop.

x2.
Also bear in mind that some laptops will have a fit if you disconnect the laptop screen on startup as it can't detect the device, and in addition, quite often the wifi antenna runs around the back of the laptop screen. No screen section, no wifi....

Depending on what brand/model, hunt the net and find a free download of the workshop manual / field service repair manual etc for it or one closely related. You'll need a set of jeweller's screwdrivers and a sheet of butcher's paper divided into a (say) 5x4 matrix with marking pen. You put the little screws in the separate squares.. can write in the squares to remind you where the screws go.;)
There are several wholesalers on ebay who sell screens...
Alternatively, depending on your budget, there are a number of second hand places selling reasonably modern laptops for a couple of hundred dollars... this is often cheaper than the cost of a new screen by itself...
cheers
