Looking for a bit of help:
In my coolant system part ERR 7097 has degraded and got a hole so needs replacing. It sits between the engine and a hose and has 3 bolts keeping it in place. (I think it might be where the thermostat sits??) Anyway, as a clueless mechanic I want to know:
1) Do I need a torque wrentch to refit the bolts when I replace it, or can I just tighten it as much as possible
2) Will I need to bleed the system before refilling
Basically, is this a bigger job than it looks because at the moment it looks like 3 bolts, but I dont want to end up causing issues down the line.
Cheers!

Being "clueless" I suggest you get someone who knows a bit about TD5's or a LR dealer to have a look and maybe instruct you how to do it yourself or pay them to do it, if you do it and stuff something up it will cost more in the long run. I'm a retired mechanic with no experience on TD5's so can't give any other advice, Regards Frank.

Sounds like the coolant outlet on the head?
You dont need a Torque wrench to refit it. About 15nm rings a bell.
Of most concern is how this came to be corroded so badly. I would be quite concerned for the Oil Cooler and general condition of the Cooling System. Sounds like the Coolant has been neglected/ missing for a very long time.:(

No sweat, mate. Did mine a while back, simple job. Just remember, clean all mating surfaces, don't be too butch. I did not use a torque wrench, but be careful. The part is called " water outlet housing, TD5", cost me $ 45 in 2011, the gasket cost $ 5.50. Now is a good time to check the so called "secret hose", from the oil cooler to around the back of the engine. Good idea to take it off, and check the oil cooler spigot. You need to take off the turbo shield, to get at it. This hose is often ignored, because it is out of sight. If it is not in good nick, replace it. Best to remove the 10mm bolt in the bracket holding the pipe going around the back of the engine, to give yourself a bit of leverage. Bob

I know it's an old thread, but since it's one of the first results to come up when you Google it, I thought it would be worth updating it with the correction information:
Coolant outlet elbow 22 Nm (16 lbf.ft)
