1974 Series 2a Land Rover

Hi, am now the owner of a 74 series 2a land rover. It has a great gearbox, clutch, diffs and engine. Not so great is the interior, door trims (window seals) and rubber seal around windows. It needs a new radiator and front grill. Can someone tell me if they have any experience in doing work on these buses. How hard are the above parts to get? It has the original petrol engine in it. I really love the old buses, really not wanting to return it to showroom condition, just wanting to get it registered so that I can drive it around a bit. Any info would be really appreciated. It is either a 74 or a Series 2a, it can't be both, as the 2a was replaced by the Series 3 in 1972. Easy to tell unless it is a bitza - most parts are interchangeable - 2a has instruments in the centre, 3 has them in front of the driver.

Most parts are readily available, and reasonably cheap - if you give your location we can be more specific.

I suggest that you spend some time reading the Series 2/2a and 3 sections on this forum - and in particular the 'Good Oil'. If you do not already have them, workshop and parts manuals should be high on your priority list. See 'Rave CD' in the forum Shop, top bar, just below the banner.

Suffix H SIIA were still being sold to customers in August 1973 after hundreds of SIII models had been sold.

We know that Jeep and other manufacturers keep vehicles in storage yards often past the change of calendar year before the compliance plate was affixed.

I wonder when/where the compliance plate were fitted by Leyland or Grenville/PMC?

Suffix H was from Feb 1971, you will have metric 16mm wheel studs.

Do you have all synchromesh, gearbox? will be numbered from 910-00001A, if so.

should have a salisbury rear axle. very late registration year, could have been in storage , due the series 3 coming out.

Like Diana said theres alot of parts out there for your restoration, some genuine parts, are getting very thin on the ground and as such are very sought after and very expensive, non genuine can be purchased for many parts, but you will get what you pay for. We stock all the body panels and some of the harder genuine parts we source from our UK agents, alot of things can be had here, but not all. so you may have to shop around. Take care alot of sellers both specify if there parts are genuine, or after market.
