Quick question. Does anyone know if the EGR blanking kit for the Freelander TD4 is the same as the one for the TD6? The pictures look similar.

Been looking on flea bay in the UK for one, but the only TD6 one listed won't ship to Aus. There are plenty of others offering the TD4 unit.

Anyone got one, and where did they get it from? I got into a frenzy today and ordered a new inline fuel pump (it's making strange noises now and won't run below 1/4 of a tank), a new engine breather (the one that never needs replacing) and I was going to finish off with the EGR blanking kit, but I came up blank...:D

Cheers - Gav.

Forget Fleabay and just go to one of the LR parts suppliers in the UK. I got a simple steel one.

Allisport have a excellant item, but their website is in rebuild after hacking, but they will answer e-mails etc

Have you noticed any difference?

Even if there is no noticable difference, I will be happier knowing all that sludge isn't getting into my intake. I pulled the EGR off mine when I first got it, and gave it and what I could reach of the intake a good clean - it wasn't pretty, and the valve itself takes up a ton of room, so I think it would have to do something.

Let us know Gary.:)

As others have noticed heaps a crud in intake manifold. Cleaned mine as best I could without removeing Manifold. Slight decrease in fuel consumption. Happy I did mine. Motor seems to run a bit better

In hindsight I should have removed manifold completely & cleaned it properly

Thanks Gary, I think I will pull the manifold off and clean it when I do mine. I have ordered the Alisport one, and it is currently winging its way here. It is showing at Sydney this morning, so I should have it soon.

Cheers - Gav.

Has anyone had a problem fitting the Allisport EGR blanking kit. Tried to fit mine this morning and it wouldnt mate up properly with the manifold and the pipe coming in from the RHS (even tried loosening the lower clamp on this pipe to no avail) When comparing the original valve to the kit, the side stub for the pipe is about 4mm out so when the pipes fit together the flange of the kit is 4 mm from the manifold. I dont like the idea of pulling it that far. Just about to email Allisport, but thought I would check the experience of others, or am I missing something ?

Haven't fitted mine yet... Still sitting on the bench with a new inline fuel pump and breather kit...

If it's not too hot in the morning I'll have a play and report back..

That's funny Gav, I fitted my (second) in-line pump this morning! The first was a cheap one from Poland, and id developed a leak that was getting worse, so I bought the second from Hi-Flow in the States (they were out of stock last time) on inspection this morning, on the Polish one the whole plastic insert was wobbly inside the ali case! so whatever was used to seal it had gone!
The Hi-Flow one has a lifetime warrantee (for what it's worth)
Just waiting for some cooler weather to do all the brake pads....:)

Hi Peter

It was a while ago that I fitted my Alisport EGR blanking unit . But from memory had no issues what so ever Otherwise I would not have recomended it. Fitted real easy

Hi Fraser

Thats not good to hear about the Polish pump as that is what I have fitted. After recomendations on a few forums. Not trouble with mine yet. Touch wood !!!!

Hi Gav,
If you get this in time could you measure the distance from the face of manifold flange to centre of blanked exhaust stub, mine is 31mm, but on the EGR valve it is closer to 35mm.
thanks, Peter

Yep, 31mm on mine too. I haven't got around to fitting it yet, my back has been playing up today and I'm laid up on the couch.

Maybe later today or one evening this week.

Thanks for that Gav, I will be interested to see if yours fits. And also what is the corresponding dimension on your EGR valve. I have emailed off to Allisport the dimensions to see what their spec is.

Just did mine - took 15 minutes from start to end. I see what you mean about the exhaust tube alignment, but it isn't an issue as there is plenty of play in that line - there is an expansion joint after the first bend and if you wiggle it about a bit you will see it is designed to move.

I just levered it into position with the back of a small breaker bar, then put the clamp back on. There is only a small amount of tension on it, and I seriously doubt I will ever have a problem.

My advise would be to be a bit more heavy handed with it - you don't need to strain anything, but you are right about it not sitting in exactly the same spot.

If you want a hand doing it, I am in the Geelong area for the next couple of days - at Avalon working at the Airshow build, so I would be more than happy to pop in one night after work and help you.

Oh, and my EGR valve is 35mm from the face to the centre of the exhaust tube - same as yours.

Cheers - Gav. :)

Bacicat: I also have an Allisport and they shipped it direct to me.
I could not believe the amunt of gunk that was restricting airflow before that.

Hi Gav,
Just to let you know that I finally got around to fitting the replcement kit from Allisport, fitted perfectly so there must have been a batch a few mm out. As you explained I could have fitted the original, but as they offered to send a new one I waited. Looks like I have a spare !

This is probably not the right thread for this by the rules, but seems appropriate to me given the history above.
I have a spare Allisport blanking kit, I finished up with 2 for the price of one. I am happy to sell one for half the landed cost to me. The unit is slightly incorrect (see my correspondence with Gav above), but can be fitted satisfactorily.
Please pm me if interested.

Just ordered a kit but in the meantime what are the symptoms of an EGR valve that is stuck open? Jim

Hi Jim,
I bought the Allisport, cost with freight $130, see on ebay for $105 plus freight. I went for the aluminium to match the manifold material (same expansion rate) rather than the SS or coated steel that are much cheaper.

Thanks Peter. Boy do they do a good job. My fuel usage dropped from 11.3 l/100k to 9.3 l/100k on the open road but it has gone to around 10 now I am bask in suburbia. Jim
