Wish me luck.
The throttle's had a couple of sticky moments in the last few days and I haven't worked out why yet.
Two momentary sticks, and last night jammed almost at WOT as I was changing gears
A couple of jabs and it came back.
Nothing seems to be hooking it in the cabin, popped the bonnet and can't see anything obvious (yet)
Can the cable fray internally and jam it ?
Engine off, everything feels smooth and dandy
Shaft on the pump ?

Check the rubber floor mat. Its common for the lug and bolt on the left side of the accelerator pedal to catch in that U shaped cut out. The only real permanent solution is to extend the cut out section to clear the lug and bolt.

Thanks.
I did check that, it was my first port of call but I'll have another look.
After having a play this morning I suspect the actual cable.
Bother return springs are intact, the throttle pedal shaft was a bit gungy so cleaned that up but the plastic/teflon coating on the actual cable appears to be shredding a little at the pump end.

I have a 130 300tdi and it happened to mine. Went crazy looking for the source, much as you are doing. What was happening to mine is that when I was driving my feet moved the floor mat forward just a fraction but just enough to catch the accelerator, then when I looked at home and not driving along, it all worked fine. Try putting a little forward pressure on the floor mat and see if it moves up the firewall a tad.

Yep, you're right, the bloody mat was slipping forward.
Found it when you were posting your last reply, cue Twilight zone music :D
Thanks for that as I'd already discounted it.

Hi rick , glad you'r all fixed up , and the price was right . I read in LRO mag about a Range Rover owner who's clutch wasn't working properly , so into workshop , yes new cluch ect. Turns out all it was , his floor mat had creaped under his peddle stoping it going all the way down . So as with you we read and we learn . Thanks jimr1 ..

knew straight away it wouldn't be anything else...what is there that could stick? there is a pedal, a cable, and a lever.
mats are for door steps and a boy's name. also good for creating rust and then hiding said rust in a dealers yard!* (doh!).
mine are now safely installed where they belong*, all three layers of them.

Yep, first thing I did was remove anything sitting against the floor and bulkhead that could trap water. Got it just in time too.

I think someone was trying to 'pimp' my county at some stage. Nothing says 'try hard' like 3 layers of floor mats and black sparkle paint.

Naa, 157 RPM is Isuzu territory :D

Everytime I checked it it was sitting OK.

Its a shame you fixed it so quick Rick,
I was going to suggest you undo the throttle cable, twist on a piece of no. 8
punch a hole in the bonnet, and then just feed it through the window, of course YOU would have twitched a loop for a handle....

Steve, Serg has seen my bonnet release, it isn't so different
[edit] It was a temporary fix when the cable snapped and I've had a new cable for, oh, maybe six months or more now :o

I thought a defender only get good once the bonnet release was a loop of number 8
Isnt that how ALL good fenders are rigged?
ps glad you got the easy fix - now you can go back to dreaming about never doing a zuzu transplant ;)

I was going to suggest that this morning but thought something that silly would of only happened to me.
Good to see I'm not alone.:)

Hi rick , No8 now why didn't I think of that . My bonnett release cable is fraying , so I put a bit of cord on the catch incase it snaped before I brought a new cable , that was a year or so ago , so it's back on the list of jobs to do . At least you'v got a cable .:D. cheers jimr1..

Hahaha... It never ceases to amaze me how we all jump straight in with complex solutions before checking the simple stuff. :D
