Just got the set of Kumho SAT KL61 123/70/16, Kumho*Road Venture SAT KL61 (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp'tireMake=Kumho&tireModel=Road+Venture+SAT+KL61)
and I am wondering if I should instal White Letters In or Out.
I haven't seen too many Discos with the letters Out, so I am leaning toward In.
The tire as is has already a lot to offer visually :)
Thoughts?

I was told by a tire guy that the white letters should be out because the wall was thicker on the outside to cope with four wheel driving?... (Cooper ATR) and this is also why some people paint the letters...
Sounds a bit like an urban myth to me, but could it be true?

Sounds like crap to me, if anything the white material could possibly delaminate for the same reasonings.

No. Personal choice about white in or out, but I have mine in - I don't need to prove anything to anyone about my choice in vehicles.

A vehicle of class like a Land Rover does NOT need white lettering on its tyres. Def IN :D

Always out. Just looks cool. I wish Mickey T would make full blown white wall mud tires rather then just the lettering. Now that would be cool.

Back in the 90's I had them out on the old Maverick.
Definitely in on the disco. ;)

Unless I'm getting sponsored to use a particular brand of tyres I have the White writing in.
I don't do free advertising.
Notice I spelt the word as TYRES, not the poxy American way!

The white lettering side has a layer of white rubber. White rubber should in theory have less UV stability and inferior mechanical properties compared to black rubber, as it has no particulate carbon.
However it is just a thin layer, sandwiched between layers of black rubber. I have not noticed any difference in sidewall strength from side-side.

I would brand those who have the white lettering out in the same bucket as those who choose to have a huge sticker across their rear screen announcing to the world their choice of brand of sunnies.
Yes, well done, you have exercised your rights as a consumer and purchased a set of sunnies/tyres/brand of bullbar/accessories. Do you really feel the need to have that written in 6 foot high letters across the back of your car/on the sidewall/tattooed across your forehead?
You guessed it. No free advertising from me. :D

A visible badge is one thing. Screaming a brand at the world is somewhat different.

I would have said they were pretty much the same thing.
The badge will be a different colour to the paint work (usually), so what is the difference?
As far as my opinion regarding the white writing in or out, I prefer out. I just like the way it looks, I am not concerned about what the words say.

I don't care much about advertising or anything like that, the white lettering is just ugly.
White lettering on tyres is for Toyota drivers.

I keep the Original Landrover ones, ie, make and Model, but dealers stickers, off they come.
I have business signwriting for the Company, our Fuel Distributor, and accessories supplier, that's all.
Just waiting for a tyre manufacturer to confirm a deal and they can have their logo on the car.

How many of us have AULRO stickers on our Landrovers?
If you want to be technical, that's still advertising :)

One sticker on each of my Land Rovers and the advertising on the side of the tyres is plain to see ( when I crawl underneath to change the oil ). :wasntme:

I think when people buy white lettered tyres with the writing on the inside, they look like the tyres have all been put on the wrong way. They look all wrong to me.

I have all sorts of stickers...
Must get a Rudy Project one to match my sunnies

Wow, this turnout to be a hot topic!!
Funny things happened. Sent my driver to the shop with my Disco to change the tires. I was specific about white letters IN. Well, it came back with the letters OUT! Ughh...just another day in S.E. Asia.... it doesn't look that bad though.

letters out looks ok until you take if off road and and scrub them down in some poop coloured mud. after that most people just keep the lettering on the inside

Not that it really sticks the tyres anyway.

I used to have it both ways
When I had tyres with white lettering they were in, and when I rotated the tyres side to side but maintained the direction of rotation, they were out ! :D

On the inside for me,dunno why,just do:p
And i rotate them the easy way,so the white stays on the inside;)

When it comes to land rovers there no real right or wrong as to what you do or don't do, as long as you really like it, thats one reason we drive landys ...but you will find a lot of people who like to share there opinion...like I just did...if you really like the look then its good for you ...Gary

I have em out but to be honest after 15,000 k's of off roading its not much of a difference any more. I think the white initially just gave a nice contrast

Hey, in or out, personal pref', no big deal! Most important thing is you're happy with your choice of rubber . . . I have same Kumho in 235/70R16's on my '96 TDi, and very happy with them. They handle well on & off road, not that I've done any serious mud wallowing type off road!
On second lot of Kumho KL78's on the old Classic '81 Rangey, and they are without a doubt, the best wearing tyre I've had. Good balance of comfort, on & off road.
My Bro recommended after trying all the fave brands for Landy's, he got the best run with Kumho's on his Defender single cab ute.
NB My writing is IN!
Cate:-)
