Just caught a clip on TV showing a rolled series III near Toodyay.
I hope it's no-one from the forum.
Condolences to the family of the driver.

Indeed, a terrible accident - and poor news reporting!

There was a picture in the NT News today (Page 2) of a Freelander (1) parked nose first in a palm tree. The driver says he came around a bend and his brakes didn't work ...
A terrible crash with the S3 for sure :(

Note that they call the vehicle a TLC in the news article.

More concerning is that it is a SIII 88 hard top in bahama gold, doesn't one of our W.A. members have that model as their avatar? :(

I know the car, but I can't put a name to it.
I think is was a 88" truck cab.

So harsh! Sincere condolences Jase,my best friend drowned last month whilst he was on holiday in Thailand. Because it was abroad I scoured for all the news I could find and found an ex-pat forum where people were talking about it, and I joined like you have here. There are some real dick head forums out there! I'm glad members here have been sympathetic with their comments.

That is really bad news - very tragic.
On the issue of seatbelts - I would have thought that all series 3s would have been fitted with some sort of seatbelts from new as they were released about the same time as the laws came in. My very early series 3 had them.
Nevertheless very sad.

Unfortunately, going by the images and the collapse of the roof, seatbelts may not have helped that much. In this case the only thing that would have helped is roll over protection. It is a lesson for all of us with Defenders and series vehicles.

Very tragic news and my thoughts go out to everyone impacted by this.
As others have said, it does show just how dangerous Series or Defenders are in a roll over. Even though I love my Defender (and plan to fit a roll cage when I'm rebuilding it), it makes me think I'd rather a 4WD that is safer (thinking VW Amarok). Passion for a vehicle isn't worth losing your life over (or the life of someone you love) if the vehicle is unsafe.
Again my condolences to all involved.
