Hey guys, just a quick one..my 2012 110 Wagon has decided in the last month to develop a 'squeak' -for lack of better terms - in the B-pillar on the drivers side. It sounds to me like 2 bits of plastic rubbing together, but can't for the life of me figure out which bits..

Has anyone else had this and found a solution?

Cheers
Jim

If you look down through the Artic Window you will notice a series of bolts and other securing arrangements which secure the roof to the sides of the car. In my 2009 Puma these give rise to squeaks and rattles as the roof moves relative to the sides. There is a strip of material seperating the two but in time the squeaks and rattles develop. If you spray lubricant so that it penetrates to that strip of black material the noises will disappear for a while. And then come back. I'm reluctant to keep lubricating as I think the seperating material will deteriorate from the lubricant.
It is a difficult noise source to locate and I stripped all but the roof lining out of my car to finally isolate it. What a joy it was to finally locate it!
The proper solution probably is to remove the roof and put in a better separating material. But I'm not going to attempt that and I am now at the point where I am going to fit an insulating material like several narrow strips of carpet along the channel below the Artic Window to just deaden the rattles and squeeks.
Interestingly, it only happens on the drivers side of my Puma and the passengers side is silent, or perhaps the passengers side is too far away for me to hear!

Hi Jim

Sounds like our MY 2012 Puma HCPU came optioned with a similar thing. With less than 500 kilometres on the clock it started making a squeak from the passenger side B pillar, which then intensified into a kind of knock.

Quick trip to the dealers sorted it. Some bolts had come lose. Thats always a risk with a vehicle put together by hand. We did the Solihull factory tour and saw people assembling some bits with screwdrivers- not even powertools!

Sounds like a quick warranty visit. Good luck

Cheers

There was a loud squeaking from my l/h B-pillar area when I bought the 130, I got my wife to pull the door tightly shut by the handle and the squeaking stopped. I adjusted the door latch striker in a bit so the door is tighter shut, no more squeak.

As pod has mentioned, my 2011 130 also suffers this but from both front doors, very annoying and easily adjusted..... just need to get around to doing it haha.

Thanks, will have to give this a go on the way home from work in the morning, if not it will have to go off to the dealer to see if they can figure it out.

I wonder if something like armour-all or silicon spray on the door seals would help. Might even be good for them.

I had my Defender cleaned at one of those Coffee/car clean sweatshops and ever since it has had terrible squeaks from the doors, when you pull the door closed and hold tight it stops.
Maybe something they used to clean the rubbers caused it, will give the Silicon spray a go and see what happens, cheers for the idea!!

I found that talcum powder works best.. Silicone won't last long and then will squeak even more!
