Hi all after a recent trip from Sydney to port Macquarie towing a dead disco on a trailer my td5 auto disco is a bi sticky. Mainly changing from 1st to second and it is worse when cold. I have done a filter and fluid change and rechecked the fluid level since. Do you think this is a dying solenoid in tranny or the xyz needing some attention? Thoughts appreciated

MIne exhbited teh same behaviour when my XYZ switch was faulty - the gear display on the dash and lights by the lever woudl usually be flickering when it occurred - so perhaps check them when it's happening, before putting it down to the switch.
BTW - cheapest new switch I found was Island 4x4 in the UK, about $450 landed.

I'd put money on it being the XYZ switch. I just had mine replaced as the transmission was all over the place around gear changes, hunting on selection (not knowing which gear to select), it appeared to be slipping and just playing up in general.
A new switch solved the problem and now the transmission behaves beautifully. The downside was the cost locally of the switch.
I'd like to know why LR can scun damn near $1,000 for a switch that costs no more than 20 bucks to make.

There is a post here somewhere describing how to refurbish the switch (perhaps in "The Good Oil"). It must be worth a try considering the cost of a new one.

You could try resetting the adaptive values on the auto if you have access to a nanocom. Worth a shot.

I was wondering about that the other day.
I remember someone bringing in a burnt out paddle flow switch to work one day. The replacement was about $300.
I salvaged the old one from the bin and stripped it down, and replaced the micro switch inside. Cost me $1.00 from Jaycar.
Thought the XYZ might be something similar...

Hello,
One thing which has a big influence on the auto box is the MAF, maybe check this with the Nanocom to see if it is reading right. My gearbox gets sticky when the MAF is dirty.... could be wrong but a clean would't do any harm.

Not long since I replaced the MAF it was second hand but tested up well.
I tried shifting manually last night and it shifted well. More is pointing to the switch.

Cleaned the oil out of the plug on the ecu again last night and seemed to have fixed the sticky Trany. Makes you wonder how many tranys have been rebuilt because of dodgy xyz switch or oil in the loom.
