Defender started to worry me with some backlash through the gear changes, up till now there has been not a hint of a clunk in the whole driveline, tracked it down to some worn lower link bushes.
After receiving some Britpart rubbers NTC9027 in the mail & refusing to use I decided to try some Nolathane bushes, thanks to R2D2 who came to my rescue.

http://www.hardwarejournal.com.au/images/uploads/CoverStory2Jan04.jpg A step ahead of the Standard pattern in that when assembled correctly the shaft for the Radius Arm points down slightly , Totally emiminating any stress on the bush in the normal level sitting position. Standard bushes are stressed with the car just sitting flat & level. Also not that I would use them but also negating the need for cranked Radius Arms.
Road test = drivline clunk completely gone :D
Will see how they fare on the round Oz trip, fingers crossed. I know some people have had a bad trot from these but I'm told there is genuine & knock off Nolathanes, = don't get them from Ebay
images below show original bush - doesn't really look that bad,
But new bush looks a lot better.

if you have a driveline clunk and your diffs & t/case feel tight have a close look at your lower link bushes
(btw if the Trailing Arms look beefy they are "Foundry 4x4 arms" )
