I have a D4 and the Faultmate MSV-2 since 2010. I have never been able to use the Faultmate in stand alone mode, gives a error saying error communicating on Bus, works fine with a PC attached and talking to individual ECU on HS bus, except for the function, show all faults, scans the HS bus then bombs out at 4% on the MS Bus. Works OK to set CCF and read individual ECU. Has not been a priority to fix as it works with PC if your read individual ECU faults.
I originally suspected it works OK when talking on High Speed Bus but fails on Medium Speed Bus. I have purchase a ODBC2 extension lead and cut the pins off for the MS Bus and it just works the same without the MS Bus so theory about not being able to talk on MS Bus looks to be correct.
I have previous had someone talk to the driver's door module which is on the MS bus with another diagnostic tool and they say its OK, so I think the MS Bus on the D4 is OK.
The cable supplied by black box, which goes between the Faultmate and the ODBC2 socket is what allows the Faultmate to talk to either the MS or HS bus as required. This is what I suspect is the issue. New one from Cyprus will be $160, so would like to prove that is the issue before I order it, hence the reason for the post.
What I am after is anyone attending the GOE seminar or indeed just in Sydney and has a the Faultmate MSV-2 willing to either use my cable and see they get same result, or let me try their cable to see if I can my use my Faultmate in standalone , or ideally both.
It would be good to be able to use the standalone function. (does this work for others on the D4?)
Regards
Gerry
