ok folks so i'm new here are have a few crazy ideas of what to do with my new (to me 94') 110.

first get the rust sorted and clunks under control.....

a have an idea of lowering my defender, lowering the centre of gravity and stop it rolling around like an old volvo. then when needed which pop it back up on airbags or hydrolic/pnematics....

as you know it has springs all round and discs so has the potential to handle and stop alot better. once ive built up the strength in my leg to stamp on the brake hard enough.

oh and i'm skint:p

i'm keeping this baby for a long time and have no rush to do anything at present (except a rack in the back for fridge windsurf kit, oh and a bed somewhere) but feel like doing something out the box, well actually burnin' the box!

some one out there must have thought of this before.... or should i just go get a cheap arsed sports car and leave her standard???

Do not go in the same sentence.

Airbags and controller systems from someone like a minitruck mob would start at $5000-, but given the weight and control you're looking for I'd double it.

Hydraulics, I'd allow 4K for rams, 3K+ for pump, 2K ~ for pto for pump, 6-8K for fitting incl pipe making, hoses, installation.

And you think you're skint now?

Or there's a complete and utter tool on ebay trying to flog off a RRC with a "wizz bang super dooper" hydraulic suspension kit. If you're lucky he'll threaten to sue you while you ask him a question & reject your more than reasonable bid of around $10- (as opposed to his asking price which ranges from 25-42,000 depending on the day).

Why not put on an airbag system off a later RRC or a P38.

'cause we want something reliable

There's a number of threads on here showing rear and full airbag systems on 110/120's and 130's using Firestone truck 'bags sourced from TruckSpring in the US and The Airbag Man here.

Checkout Rangierover's 120 buildup, isuzurover's 110, etc.

I'll dig links up in the morning.

Gordon at Oposite Lock Sth Sydney converted a 110 to air suspension only the other week. No idea about which system but worth checking out for those in Sydney who don't want to do it themselves.

Not an idea for someone who's skint. :(

IT might work IF......

you used truck airbags with lastomer spring stops for your lowered height suspesion control.

youd have to fit up something like the dumb as a post mechanical airbag control valve thats on an R series mack. mount the rear one to the A frame and good luck on the front.

12V compressor should sort it but if you did it with a tdi turf the AC and fab that up as a pump.

I could see it being done for $2500.

If it's just the handling that's the real issue, stick in some new shocks, and maybe springs. You'll be amazed at the massive difference this makes to a coil sprung Landy.

For cheap, why not airbags just to shrader valves similar to a setup I think JC did, and when you want to adjust just pump them up or let them down to suit manually.

great stuff fella just what i needed. lots of ideas and prices

i like that none of you said don't be daft you *****! ;@)

i might give her a set of springs and shocks when i have the dollar, i might have to get over my ethical rejection of working in the resources sector

That's what I'll be doing initially and is what 130man did, as have a few others (isuzurover ?)
