I've bought a HF radio with Barrett 910 auto tune antenna. I'm looking for suggestions on how to mount it on to a 110 wagon. I don't have a wheel carrier. One option is a FFR/FFT army antenna mount.
thanks

Ours is not an auto tune, we have our Tap Ariel on the front bar, removable when not traveling.

Ta Caroline. If it had a spring base I probably would do the same. I will probably mount at the back somewhere as this type has no spring base to absorb a hit.
I have destroyed a couple of car radio antennas in the last 12 months which were mounted on the front bar.

here are a few shots; stainless, TIG welded, stainless plates and cap heads with nylocs etc. had a Barrett 910 autotune fitted to it, very still and was perfect height.

I had a bracket a bit like that then on reading the manual and discussing with their tech advisor, I was told to keep the autotune at least 160mm from the body and as the plastic casing forms a part of the radiating element , to mount it as high as possible. He said the join between the two bit of plastic was where the whip lengh is calculated and if this is sheilded signal will be lost.
I ended up mounting a spare wheel bracket and bolting it too that.

thanks Keith, so does the manual recommend a gap of 160mm between the outside of the casing and the body? Do you know if that includes glass?
thanks

I managed to find a manual online for the 910.
Barrett recommend a gap of 160mm between the outside of the antenna and the body work. As the antenna diameter is about 100mm, the centre of the mount must be about 210mm from the body. My FFR mount wont place it far enough from the body.
Mounting it on a wheel carrier would achieve the gap. Maybe I need to revisit making a wheel carrier.

Unfortunately I won't have time to do a wheel carrier, and mount the HF antenna to it.
So I've bought a fold down base pictured on this website.

I have two options either fit to roof bar ( in middle or rear of roof) or mount on the bull bar. It will be folded down most of the time.
So any recommendations would be appreciated.

Codan HF Auto Tune Bracket (http://www.pefabrication.com.au/product.php?productid=17514)
I've just bought a Barrett 2050 Traveler Pack second hand so will need to find somewhere to fit the autotune too. I note on the website is says that bracket has been specifically designed for the codan autotune, will it fit the Barrett as well? It is this model...
That bracket looks the goods, but want to be sure it fits the antenna.

Mines a Barrett 550 with a 910 antenna. My antenna looks the same. I cant measure the mounting bolt on mine as its got a lock attached and the seller had lost the key.
The mounting hole on the bracket is between 16.5 & 17.0 mm (less than 17mm anyway) according to my plastic verniers.

Hi,
I am desperately trying to find somewhere/someone who can sell me a bracket to mount a Barrett 2050 auto tune into the back of my Defender 110 station wagon. I have searched high and low and to no avail. I have tried Barrett directly - no joy as they won't supply for a single unit order (I understand their position. However I am struggling with the fact that having bought a HF unit, it now appears impossible to mount the bloody thing (I have been speaking to numerous company's for months and still no joy). Does anyone know where I can get an appropriate mount? I honestly had no idea that for those of us not driving Patrols or Hiluxs this was such an issue!!
Many thanks

Do you happen to have part numbers or where you got the parts from? I'd prefer rear mountings but a bull bar mounting will definitely work. Would you happen to have a close up of the mounting/connection of the auto tune to the bull bar? A massive thanks in advance!!

The mounting is a section of 50mm square tube that I welded to the bull bar. I placed it so when folded down the antenna rests on top of the guard. I zip tied a piece of tire tube to the antenna body to prevent rubbing.
It survived a Birdsville Simpson Oodnadatta trip last year without any dramas.

I made this for a Codan autotune on a Defender wagon I once owned.
Bracket is hot dipped gal, and the brace is stainless steel.
Mount hole is 180mm from the body.
Worked very well.

Hey Pete, I feel a bit homesick when I look at those photos. I am guessing that mulga country is around Charleville/Quilpie way. It looks a bit familiar.

I think they were taken south west of Cunnamulla on the Hungerford Rd. On the way to Currawinya. They had a good size shearing shed there.
