liquid injection

G'day all, started research for gas conversion for D2a v8, and there is some info out there about liquid injection, but it only seems to be from suppliers, who of course say its fantastic, cheap, and has no issues!
Has anyone got real world knowledge or experience of this system, price differences, and pros/cons?

expensive to install compared to fumigation
a little harder to do self service and tune work on
Is usually slightly more economical than fumigation for a given power level
can get you more power from the LPG (but at the cost of increased consumption if you use it)
so far it seems to be more reliable than the Fumigation stuff.
I've heard mixed opinions of the results on the overall economy of it.


I've never installed one (Im not a gas installer), Ive tweaked a few(only 2 on landies) to get it to where the owners thought it should be (and in fairness the shortcomings on the landies were more LR "quirks" than LPG system shortcomings) after a not optimal installation and my personal opinion of it is

"if it was installed from factory as a cheap or free option I'd take it but I remain unconvinced that with the current and predicted costs of LPG it is a cost effective modification"

The potential for poor installation is much, much greater than with vapour injection. The placement of the injectors is critical, as they spray liquid, not vapour. The LPG tank must be of the correct design (pump-in-tank) and AFAIK they haven't worked out how to run twin tanks as commonly used under D2's.

Using vapour injection is much more forgiving, you can increase performance by programming a percentage of petrol under load. Also you can reuse second hand lpg tanks, even off a D1. Cost effective for what is now an 11+ year old second hand vehicle. Also liquid lpg tanks like petrol tanks on efi can't be run empty, wasting range.

The best liquid injection kits are by Orbital Autogas, rigorously tested by proper engineers and sold as vehicle-specific kits. Unlikely to be available for a tiny volume vehicle like the D2. Almost certainly vapour injection. Liquid injection is relatively uncommon. Vapour injection is obvious in that it uses a water heated vapouriser (converter) and remotely mounted injectors with low pressure hoses to the manifold. Injector rail pressure is typically only 20psi. Liquid injection runs high pressures from the in-tank pump and lacks a converter.

Hi Snake just fitted gas vapour to D2a V8 so this may help
Picked up mine on Thursday ,Gentek System ,vapour injection,IMHO very nice job of fitting removed jack from behind battery and fitted converter&computer into this space leaving room on left side to fit #2 battery, went like the clappers for a few hours then started to miss and fart,took it back on monday as i had been busy,#1 daughters' 40th birthday celebration.arrived at their workshop unannounced and they were straight on to it,went for a drive with the tech bloke and his laptop,10 minutes later all fixed,lost a part of the program,very amiable people to deal with makes it easy when you don't have to stuff about leaving car or waiting.
He has saved my file for the next problem if i have one,85 ltr tank in the parcel space at rear 72 ltr usable,i still have room for shopping bags and the dog.so alls well,not sure of economy yet as i've only done about 200k's still showing 3/4 tank of gas.
All up cost was $3750 before rebate which i have already applied for,thru medibank local office,lady said it takes a couple of weeks to come through by direct deposit.
final cost of $2750 seems Okay to me but others might know better prices elseware.
needless to say one happy camper,I'll post later when i've tried pulling the boat up Mt Ousley for a trial,boat weighs 2.8T empty.(Searay 2380)
