Just got back from China we spent all our time in Shanghai for this trip. I took photos like this in 2010 but this time I moved further down river.

I've got a picture almost identical to that somewhere!

I've spent a total of about 6 months in China over the last 5 years - didn't mind my time in Shanghai or Beijing too much, but outside of those two cities, I hated it.

Shanghai really has to be seen to be believed, with over 22 million people living in one city, it makes it a little on the crowded side.

It was very busy while we were there. It was the New Year Holiday time.

Both Beijing and Shanghai are fantastic to visit but I am always glad to be home.

I don't think I've ever seen it quiet in shanghai, it's a manic place.

Where did you stay? My favourite was the Intercontinental in Puxi if i was on my own, or the Sofitel on Nanjing Lu if I was with colleagues. Some absolutely cracking restaurants and food to be had in the city though.

No boats were harmed or involved in the creation of this image.

We didn't have a high end experience with hotels.. First few nights were in a Home Inn in the outer burbs. We then had a few nights in a slightly better place just off the mall basically walk out the door cross one street and there was the mall. The last nights were in a 5 Star hotel back out in the burbs.

We found some good places to eat along with some crap spots as well.

The high end hotels I found were, without exception, fabulous. Outside of that, we'll let's just say even a Holiday Inn was awful.

Did you try the Maglev to or from the airport?
