View Full Version : Getting through anti-roll bar bushes like you wouldn't believe!

My Discovery has a 2" lift both front and rear...the springs are 2" lift Dobinsons and the shocks are Reigar Rally Raid long travel items with remote canisters.
Why am I getting through the Anti-Roll bar bushes and drop link bushes at an alarming rate? Should I put a spacer between the ARB and the chassis to help bring the geometry back in?
I'm using standard Rover Rubber bushes...should I be thinking about Polybushes for these items?
Thx.

there should be no problems with a 2 inch lift, apart from the rear donut, so you might need to look at other things if there are consistant problems.
the anti sway bars shouldn't be affected much by 2 inch lift and if the geometry was out by much you would know!

I wrecked mine but that was due to flex off road with 2 inch lift

sand, sand and sand.

Agree with JC, abrasive properties of sand is likely the culprit .

after reading one of your other posts Streaky, that you drive alot of rutty sandy rocky tracks, i think these blokes above are onto something, maybe poly is the way to go?

The Rover rubber bushes are splitting though....not wearing out through sand abrasion.
My car gets a real good workout at the weekends so maybe Polybushes might be worth a try.
During my Rally days we've used both PU and Rubber...they all broke though so we just carried on with the standard Rover Rubber ones.

Just get rid of the sway bars. Classic Range Rovers like mine didn't need them, they are only there to make people feel better as the car is cornered hard.

I have 2" lift and a Roof tent so I want all the stability I can get. The sway bars are staying on.
Thx.

I have a stock Disco 1 V8, only reasonably new to us, & I noticed when I was changing engine & transfer box oils that the front sway bar poly/rubbers where the bolts go through are completely gone.
How did you go with yours & were do you go to get replacements i.e. Landrover, Repco etc?
Thanks :D

Steelo,
For a large number of parts for your D1 you'll need to go to a LR specialist. Repco, Supercheap and the like don't stock many LR parts,or would have to order them in. You're best off giving British Off Road, MR Automotive a call, drop a PM to a couple of the vendors on here (Roverlord Off Road Spares is one that springs to mind), or Internet sellers like British4WD.

Just want to fix this before I take it for any serious playing, haven't since I bought it yet.
