Hi all, where would you start. I was heading along at 100 the last weekend and had a jolt/quick lose of power. Then about 40km later I lost power so pulled over.

After reving a few times and unable to find anything wrong like a fuel leak we decided to keep going. The rest of the day was about 400km and all went well. Have had no problem this weekend.

I would have thought a lift pump would just stop if it was broken but have found in the manual the shut off solenoid. Does anyone know if these solenoids get faulty or if there is any joints in the wire that need maintenance? I have oredered a new one just incase and also have a lift pump under the seat. I have also ordered a new fuel filter.

Anything else I should be looking at? It did not miss at all just lost power. After I let my foot off and put it back on again I was able to keep going and pull over in a safe place. Then it all came good after restarting and reving a few times. Only drive it on weekends and still learning how it works. First diesel.

Only a guess, but with an intermittent problem like that, I would look at replacing the ignition switch, it's not too dear or hard to replace with a new one ( Part No PRC 8230 ).
Put the old one in a box of spares which you can throw it out later when your happy you have found that was the problem.

Thanks Arthur, I had to laugh at you signature. I call a mate of mine of 20 years Stanley. We have been hunting and camping for years and I blame him for everything. He also has a 98 130 he bought new.

Possible corrosion on the spade for the fuel solenoid on the back of the IP.
Mines done this a few times over the years, including totally cutting out driving down a mountain in the middle of the night.
Removed the spade, cleaned both the female and male spades with scotchbrite and contact cleaner and off you go again for a few years.
We can't blame Land Rover or Lucas for this one either as it's a Bosch pump. :D

You can test that by having the ignition on but with the engine stopped, wiggle the wire very lightly where it goes into the connector and if it's loose the solenoid will click with the movement interrupting the power.
Chop the old connector off and crimp on a new one ( The red size ) .
I have found one of those original connectors had come loose where the lug folds the crimp around the wire.

It doesn't always have to be loose spade to spade, as I mentioned it's usually been corrosion.
To have a loose crimp onto the tail of the spade though.....
Although I've had that happen enough on 240V gear.

Not that lonhg ago because it was leaking, but it is due for a fuel filter.

Not that long ago because it was leaking, but it is due for a fuel filter.
also re check the water seperator to make sure it is not letting air in
