Morning All
Like many here I am proud owner of a 2.2l D90 and like most, I couldn't be happier.
Of course its had its problems but thats part of the LR experience..... ;)
I have been thinking that extending the factory warranty would be a good idea and hence this post.
Anyone done it ? Any problems or catches ? And most importantly, what price did you pay ? And I wonder, just like spare parts and accessories, if the price for the extension varies dealer to dealer......?
All comments appreciated.

Unfortunately/fortunately whichever way you look at it, Land Rover don't offer extended warranty on Defender Models.

Well thats a surprise......I spoke to Landrover Australia, David? asked him the question and was told they don't offer it on the Defender range. I was at Alto service centre at St Leonards a couple of weeks ago and got the same answer.
Who knows what the bloody hell is going on...
I will say, very expensive though, I had purchased extended warranty for a Navara D40 I had a few years ago it was only $1000 or thereabouts, it was for 2 extra years from memory.
Edit: I'm not trying to be a pain here I find it strange that it is offered on the west coast but not the east coast. I just looked into Land Rover Assured Extended Warranty, http://www.landrover.com/au/en/rr/owners/warranty-and-assistance/assured-extended-warranty/ it only mentions 12 or 24 month period, not 36 month. Has your dealer maybe sold you some kind of aftermarket warranty perhaps?

Land Rover don't offer extended warranty for the defender I know that as fact
it was only alliance (i think) and one other company (cant remember the name) that did, and the alliance were going to stop doing it not long after we got it for ours, so I wonder whether our friend here has a policy with the the other company.

Yeah I'm wondering the same thing. I don't know whether aftermarket warranty for vehicles is worth the paper its written on, that's not personal experience mind you. I note the Land Rover Ext Warr is underwritten by Alianz Australia.
I just hope the dealer hasn't done a shonky on him esp at $3k. Anyhow I shot off an email to Land Rover Aus for clarification, just had an auto reply they will get back within 2 days.

That's because Nissan don't actually fix anything under warranty.. the $1000 is used to send you reams of letters saying 'no' and for staff to man the complaint lines about their non existent warranty service. :censored:
And I asked about purchasing a extended warranty when I bought my Defender but was also told that they don't offer it for Defenders.

I got Alliance extended warranty on my vehicle nearly 3 years ago now....(covered until October '13)....just before I read here somewhere that they stopped offering it. I've had close to $7000.00 worth of claims (one a very expensive body work fault) put through on it, not one rejected - so worth the paper it's written on? It's worth trice every cent of the $2200.00 of the paper it's written on.
And MR Automotive do all the work via this policy. Best money I ever spent LR wise.
Not surprised no one offers it any more. Don't know anyone who never made ( or tried - the dealer policies were not so good) a claim on such policies.

Like I said, not from personal experience......you have done very well I would say.
I'm assuming that Alliance is an aftermarket (so to speak) extended warranty, not through Land Rover.

Out here in the West Allianz does a lot of Land Rover specific packages, which might be available elsewhere in the Country as well.
My insurance is through them on the "Land Rover Recreational Offroad Use" package which might just be a gimmick, but it will continue my road side assistance cover through Land Rover once my warranty expires end of next month. It also specifies replacement of the vehicle with new plus any registered extras like the roof rack, bull bar, winch etc should the vehicle be stolen or terminally damaged. It does also cover full recovery back to the Perth dealer (with hire car) from any gazetted road anywhere in Australia. Not the cheapest quote I've got, but if they honor the terms detailed it is the best I could find.
I'm 99% sure the extended warranty is still through them over here (asked about it 3 weeks ago, by chance) as well and the way it appears to be intended is that you continue to bring the vehicle to the dealer as you have been. Mutually beneficial for them no doubt...
Cheers,
Lou

Yep not LRA warranty after market..Had a good read first pretty much covers everything a dealer warranty does ,starts after the 3 years manufacture warranty ends, just needs to be serviced correctly and info sent through to them, cover claims up to the market value of the vehicle ..3k is ok price by me..Think it might pay for itself when the time comes along.3to6 years down the track.

Well, guys that is good to know and especially that some of you have had claims settled. It amazes me I had asked the question on 2 occasions and was not told of any other alternatives, not to say I would take them up but all the same these dealers and LRA themselves need to get on the right track.
This is the reply I got back from LRA today and this is the first time an alternative has been spoken of officially. I have blanked out specifics:
Dear Mr XXXXX,
RE: Land Rover Assured Extended Warranty Vehicle Identification Number: SALLXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Our Ref: XXXXXXXX
Thank you for your email in relation to the Land Rover Assured Extended Warranty program.
We can confirm the Land Rover Extended Warranty Program does not include the Land Rover Defender.
The Defender is classed as a commercial vehicle and as such does not qualify for the program.
Having said that, most Dealerships have a third party warranty program that is available for the Defender, we suggest you discuss this further with your Authorised Dealership.
If you have any further queries then please don’t hesitate to contact me on the number below, Monday to Friday, 08:00 till 18:00 (EST).
Kind Regards,
Jayson XXXXXXXX

Thanks Dawsey - sounds pretty promising. Could you tell us who issues it please ? Allianz ?

FWIW Allianz also provides the VW (manufacturers) extended warranties in Aus.
I paid $2400 for a Touareg (extra 3yrs), but VW forum members around the country paid prices in the range $2K - $5K, so i can well believe the figures quoted here for LR. Price was highly negotiable.
Claims were also paid out with no fuss. Hope this helps...
