I have a 1996 D1, no airbags.
Steering wheel is nothing special - no controls on it.
I was wondering whether there is a wheel which is a direct swap, which has steering wheel audio controls ?
The stereo I am looking at is allegedly compatible with steering wheel controls..

You'd be heading towards a D2 wheel or one from aP38 Rangie, but these all have a drivers air bag as well as cruise controls. Fitting the audio controls to the wheel shouldn't be a drama, however your spiral cassette behind the steering wheel may have to be upgraded (if that is possible) is it may only be designed for for the horn buttons in your case. Others more knowledgeable may correct me here.
Far simpler and cheaper is to see if you could find a stereo which has a wireless remote that attaches to the steering wheel. The Sony I had in my old Rangie had a wheel mounted remote as an an option.
Cheers

The stereo does have a remote but its not exactly a big reach across to the stereo.. we are all just spoiled these days. I was hoping for a suitable wheel so I could have a "factory" type of look.

There's certainly no D1 airbag-less steering wheel that had stereo controls. Only cruise control.

Cruise fits easily but not to the wheel, i have an aftermarket on mine and it uses a small touchpad that is located just below the clock.

So the CM7 is the switch but which actual cruise unit?

It was fitted when i got the car but at a guess it would be the AP150 as it only has basic functions - but it works fine.
