Hi All,

Just after some advice on what to look for in a couple of D3's. As I come from the world of 2A's and Isuzu 110 these modern trucks are a bit of a mystery, so please excuse my ignorance. I have had a good read of D3 forum, however just want some straight advice.

I am looking at two vehicles.

1. 2009 D3 SE 2.7TD auto 151k full service history with dealer:45k
2. 2006 D3 HSE 2.7TD auto 96K not sure on history: 46k

Is there anything particular to look for, check etc. What's the expected mileage (roughly) out of the 2.7. Are the gearboxes troublesome.Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul,
I have a D3 tdv6 HSE 2005 which cost me 50k 3 years ago so maybe the pricing is on the high side but these vehicles are just about as good as it gets. I got mine with 97k on the clock so it had done some work. I have had a new transmission (due to lack of sevicing) new air compressor and new water pump. I would check with both these vehicles that the transmission has been serviced and a metal pan installed. the 2009 model is due to have the timing belts done so thats about 2 grands worth. The 2006 has a very low milage so that is in its favor. I reckon though that a service record is pretty important with these vehicles.
How long can they run for? I seem to recall some very high milages on the UK site (500000miles or thereabouts) but they require regular attention and are not cheap to keep on the road.
Would I get another one? Absolutely.
Hope you enjoy your new drive
Cheers
John

Hi Paul

I have a 2005 with 262k. I have replaced gearbox but this may have me being a little fussy. New compresor. New AC compressor a few weeks ago. Front control arms are the only other main bits replaced. LED globes saved a little greif every time a brake light blew for me.

I hope to keep mine for many years and give mine a very hard life off road. I would suggest only looking at the one with service history as I feel that is important for longevity. Oil pan on gear box and price reduction as both seem a little high or fully priced given the age. Auction prices would put both a little to a lot cheaper I would guess.

Thanks guy, that's the sort of advice I am after. I thought they were a touch over on price and have just asked vendor about pan and belts.
Is there any other areas I need to be aware off.

Thanks,
Paul

Make sure they've had the appropriate service bulletins completed. High pressure fuel pump was one that springs to mind.

Check for smoky exhaust (and those on here with greater knowledge than me will point out the correct signs) that may indicate turbo trouble, seeing as that is a body off job to replace it.

Would both seem somewhat overpriced though.

Check if all recalls have been done.
Agree they do seem a little over priced.
the 06 one would probably not have had a gearbox flush( low on Ks) so would not have a steel pan fitted, I would do a flush on g/box straight away on either.
Including fluids and filters, I like to start fresh on any second hand car.
