Bloody hell mate you were quick. Yeah, just use a good double sided tape then until you can fix it on. Just check that its suitable for outdoor use I guess.

You can get a black one thats about half inch wide, I'm not sure what brand it is but I think its for auto use, I have some and its sticks like the proverbial to a blanket. I can't remember for the life of me where I got it though, sorry.

Live in act but car came from nsw. Too much hoops to jump around to get them to do it (although slightly more convenient) however work paying for rego and it comes out better with a few hundreds left in our pocket.

You'll find the "sweet spot" for cruising before long. Certain revs and certain speed to produce the best consumption, but it does differ a bit from vehicle to vehicle...

Congrats mate, I'm jealous!

I have one coming in three weeks identical to the one in your picture. Orkney grey with those wheels too. I asked the dealer about getting the 2-tone wheels but he just said too hard. I'm not really too fussed though tbh. I'm just counting down the days!!

As a matter of interest, is that the dealer-fitted max legal window tinting on there?

Oooooh congrats!

Looks awesome and I am very envious. My wife and I are planning a move to the ACT in the next few months and I am hoping to be shopping for a new Puma around the end of this year. It is already driving me crazy with impatience just reading through the forum.

I have already spent a fortune in my imagination, with all the gear I want to put on the truck. :D

Enjoy that new beast. I can't wait til I get my chance to post a similar announcement.

Cheers,

There appears to be a growing number of orkney grey Defenders in Canberra, mine being one of them, which is great to see. One drives past my house in Hughes every morning but I haven't yet been able to track the owner.

As Flagg suggested, it would be great to organise a Canberra Day for Defenders.

Wheres a good place to look? dealer? think I saw some on gumtree for 50$ lol

i'm not sure, mine are dealer supplied and though good, are a bit over priced.

Now I'm going to be the boring old bloke here. In the excitement of a new car, just take a breath on accessories. You can blow as much as 1/3 of the cars buy price without trying hard.
Now that is ok, but the car is fine standard as well. Just take your time, have a finished plan and use in your head. Read widely. Even then there will be the odd thing you may do differently if done again.
There is a reasonable amount of stuff out there that does't go very far pending vehicle use. For example there are wheel carries, and wheel carriers. Most times the expansive stuff if that for a reason. Hence my mud flaps.

Alrighty, some updates, a week into it and 1700kms logged...

firstly, i think james is hinting i get a snorkel https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/602160_624051480944357_82662996_n.jpg because it appears all the tabs have magically decided to cut free from the middle part of its mounting point... and yes.. not one.. not two... but ALL lol. I was gonna put double sided tape and call it a day but I'd rather get it replaced so that when the time comes that I do want to put a snorkel, it wont be a pain to take off!!

2. I think I'm experiencing the broken a/c bit which causes it to freeze over. so I might as well get that done along with the turbo pipe..

3. sometimes during shifting I hear a very short chatter... is that normal? I was able to reproduce the sound at a standstill... Shift into gear whiel at a stop, go into neutral while the clutch is fully depressed then release the clutch while in neutral. its like a little click of some sort... is that something to worry about or no? I heard some puma's have a transmission problem or something??

and what else should I check/ get replaced etc?

also, yet another silly question, so max height on the 110 is 2021mm which is 2.021 meters... the local coles is 2.1 meters... am i safe to go in? lol

Bit ****ed at the dealers today. Told me to have car there at 8am so they could order the parts they needed and havr it by lunch.. Drove interstate the night before, at dealers at 8am. Check on car at 2pm ann it hasnt moved an inch. Said it would be ready by 4:30 so waited the whole time at the lounge. 5pm get told its ready, check on car and they put the dual finish on but forfet to change the spare to the dual finish. 1 wheel stud got cross threaded so im currently driving with 4 nuts on one wheel. And as it turns out thry want me to come back when the parts 'arrive' well wtf was the point in saying come before 8 to get the parts in the same day??? Bloody waste of time now i have to drive another 700kms to get home and back to get this fixed. Ugh

That's not on. Did you tell them how far you have to drive etc??.

Are they planning on having you wait for the thermostat sensor? It's not a small job.. they told me they were confident they could get it done in one day.. but it took two..

16th March 2013, 08:03 AM
Did they not offer you a loan car? Sounds very slack to me. I would have insisted on one. Interesting Defenders still haveing turbo hose problems. Beware that the bottom coolant hose is potentially another one. The hoseclamp on another hose close by can rub on it. Get them to check it! These two probs happened within weeks of me getting mine early 2012. No probs since.
Engine loosens up nicely a year in. It's a great little goer.

PS: what's this about thermostat sensor?

16th March 2013, 10:48 AM
Well, I was told to bring it in at 8am so they could order the parts in and get it done within the day...

But basically nothing happened. they only changed 4 out of 5 wheels and broke one stud. Didnt get a hire car that day but I will insist on it he next time because I will actually need a car that day I'm here.

no point in having gone at 8am because they didnt change the tyres till 4pm anyway. it was parked where it was left at 8am so I dont even know how they could have gone about checking the hoses and the thermostat sensor..

Jools, its the sensor that keeps the core from freezing over. mine is stuffed as after a few hours the aircon freezes then stops blowing cold.

Engine seems to be better now though. just over 2000kms on it. getting used to keeping the revs under 2k which seems to have a fairly big impact on fuel economy.

but yeah, they said they will 'ring me' when the parts arrive. so basically I have to drive back to canberra with a broken car and back to sydney when the parts arrive. My aunt suggested I get them to reimburse the travel fee (or atleast fuel) because well, they did say they would have the parts within that morning and they didnt. now I have to spend on another full tank to get home and back. pffft.

but yes, next time it goes in I will mention I really need a loan car.

otherwise, I still love james. It's not his fault. lol looks way better with the dual finish wheels now I think...

that morning..

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

with the wheels installed.. notice the missing nut and block off plate

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

and on top of that, they said they reversed our downpayment two weeks ago. its still not in the account. lol

Sue
16th March 2013, 02:45 PM
Often you have to book weeks in advance for a loan car so it might pay to ask for a booking now - they will have a fair idea how long it will take for the parts to arrive.. :)

PS New wheels look great! :)

the parts that were meant to arrive within the day 2 weeks ago have just arrived now. lol

Also want them to check out clutch noise and brake noise. The brake from what I've read is covered in a bulletin here where the retainers or something need to be replaced.

Also my rear tint has some small bubbling so i may as well get that replaced.
