View Full Version : MURPHYS CREEK

We had 8 cars in total head out to Murphys Creek Escape.
Really nice camping spot, with great surrounds and facilities.
We headed out around 9am, and drove down to Murphys Creek Township to get to the driving tracks.
After quick inspection we noticed the tracks were very heavily eroded by the recent weather, and not worth taking the risk to drive.
We however did try and drive a small section leading in, where everyone had a go at crossing the shallow creek, and then on to a flat section.
After that we headed back to town and commenced to drive around the top side of the area where the drive track were located.
After inspection on the top section, it just was to slippery to navigate all the vehicles through.
There was a road section that we drove along, but after a short drive one of the vehicles encountered a major issue.:(
As a result we decided to head back out and called it a day.
Far to slippery and boggy for any safe driving, so most headed home and the remaining few went back to camp and enjoyed lunch.
We certainly think this area has huge potential, but under better driving conditions.
Nearly two months of rain has certainly destroyed alot of unsealed roads and off road tracks.

We hope to run this trip again maybe later this year.
Hopefully the weather will be on our side, to enjoy what this area has to offer.

Sadly my engine chucked a rod on the way home without warning
I can now say I have destroyed three engines in about 45 years,
Wanna buy a disco?

Cheeky has been driving me crazy all week; she has been nagging for a drive for months now. She has been whining that the MongrelJeep has been having all the fun; and she has better tyres.
She is very proud of her MTZ’s, the Jeep stole her Km2’s while Cheeky’s motor was sick
“Karma is a bitch” says Cheeky
Unfortunately we slept in; Cheeky was in a bit of a mood about the late start, but she soon got excited as we were catching up to Harry
We arrived at Murphy Creek at about 8:30 to find the rest of the Rovers ready to get started

The rains had taken its toll, so we had a couple of attempts to find some drivable tracks
Harry went exploring

Cheeky to the rescue

More exploring looked promising

[serious]
When the tracks have had sustained water, the track ratings climb several notches
Things which maybe easy when dry can become impassable when soaked
As some other Toyota drivers have been having fun in the area

Dave went for a look up the track we were looking for, I could here lots of Isuzu noise in the bush, by the time I got the camera going I just caught the exit of the creek, he had just struggled through.

We decided that we had had enough and would head home
Just as we were heading towards the Gold Coast on the toll road, way past Ipswich more than an hour after leaving Murphy’s
I saw something fall off under Harry’s car, at first I thought it was just a bit of mud.
While I was busy dodging the flying shrapnel, I noticed Harry slow and head for the nearby exit off the freeway.
The radio soon crackled “I lost the engine”
Unfortunately the exit was not friendly and turned into the centenary highway, Harry rolled to a halt in the middle of a merge, and inspected the damage

Seems to be a new inspection port for number 4 big end
I hooked Harry up to Cheeky and I dragged him to the nearest off ramp which turned out to be 5km away.
We found a car park, rang RACQ and waited
All that was left was to have happy hour

Eventually

Thanks for the trip Dave, the area looks promising looking forward to trying again when the weather drys out a bit.

Just to finish this off due to some stupid reports about my car and some private messages.
The car suffered no damage from the trip.
Yes the engine failed on the way home, but I think it is not due to this trip.
I am selling the car if someone wants it
I cannot afford to replace the engine and want the car gone.
It was my intention to remove the extras I fitted and sell it as a going car with a broken engine but I am now parting it out.
If you want a very good disco hurry and call me, because I am parting it out if no one wants it.
