it has been built for a d2 without the factory rails and follows the roofline.
i am thinking of cutting out the section above the factory rails and think should fit. as it is alloy i assume would need specialist for welding mods?.
anyone else got around this issue before?.
:)

Have you thought about removing the factory rails?

My D2 has had this done to fit a full length rack.
the previous owner had the work done. To fill the holes a set of stainless plugs were machined up to fill the holes. He also had power wires coming out of the front drivers one for lights on the rack.

See post. http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-2/67723-show-us-ya-roof-racks-d2-9.html

Cheers, Chris

Quickest & easiest, without welding would be to extend the legs.

Profile new legs to whatever size, drill holes & bolt through. Make the stays wider/longer where it sits on the roof to distribute the weight a little.

x2 remove the factory rails and extend the legs. Or just extend the legs far enough that the roofrack clears everything - it depends on what the resultant height would be. Being an alloy bar, if you can't weld ali yourself, it's going to cost you as much in time and specialist labour, that you may as well have bought a roof rack that would actually fit.

Yeah take the rails off theyre more of a hinderance than help. Be your cheapest option as aluminium welding can be $$$$$

Instead of ripping out the factory rails, you could cut the legs off the rack and mount it using some rhino bars, or even just cut the standard legs off and mount it to the gutters using the Rhino legs. Might have to space it out a bit so it sits evenly but i'd say it's doable.

For $200 I will make it work, removing factory rails is the plan :)

I've got a contact for the welding. Give me a call and we'll tee up a time. Only down in Pendle Hill.
