When you are downloading a program from a site you didn't get bombarded with extra programs installed like security, search engines and a whole range of rubbish that takes half the afternoon to remove from computer. Believe me I search the download site first and try to bypass these extras but sometimes to no avail. Any suggestions for clean downloads? Jim

Are you saving the install files and then running or are you running from within internet explorer ?
Most of the ones I've installed give you a tick box, for the 'add-ons' which I just untick, sometimes though you have to keep a good eye out for it.
Also make sure you are actually getting the files you want, I've noticed there is a trend towards some degree of deception on some sites that makes you install something else, thinking it's what you are after.

I normally save install files in downloads and install from there. Jim

I use Ninite - Install or Update Multiple Apps at Once (http://www.ninite.com) tick all the applications you need, get the downloader app and it will automatically run through the list of apps you selected, download them and install them without the toolbar crap.

You will find that most freeware has a box to tick so that you dont get the crap or toolbar addons etc, quite often its not a simple untick but tick another box then untick again.
