Got LRed today. Thought I'd be smart and open a rear slider to get some access. First time ever on the SVX, perhaps??? The Felt came out with the window as it went aft.

1. How does one operate the window and keep the felt in place?

2. How far back is the window supposed to slide?

3. Will I need to re-glue the felt?

Cheers

Couple of drops of superglue worked in the past (previous Defenders).

My dog goes in the back of my 90 all the time, so mine slide often and I've not had any issues with the Puma's sliders.

Cheers,

Lou

If it's the same crappy felt they've always used you'll be replacing it fairly soon with proper bailey channel as Kelvin suggested.

I obtained mine from a Rare Spares stockist, but sorry, I can't remember which channel/part number it was, but it cured the rattles and leaks permanently in the back windows of the crew cab.

gday rick;

i have just replaced the felt bits with baileys channel from clark rubber in my 120 defender and what a job that was to do. needs 2 people to put in , 1 to pinch the channel and 1 to pull it through the channel. all up it takes 4 meters to replace both sides. sure stopped the dreaded window rattles, now i wish i could just open the drivers side part of the window.very hard to get them opened, have used different types of lubricant to make it easier, not much help though. good luck with it:eek:
hope this info helps.

Thanks guys.

I'll ask the stupid question, apart from being a replacement for the felt, what is bailey's channel?

AFAIK bailey channel is more or less a generic name for the rubber channel section that the window glass slides in, whether that be front wind up glass or rear sliding glass.

The other option to Clark Rubber is these Dave's Interesting Things (http://www.davesitshop.com/davesitshop/index.php?_a=viewCat&catId=33) They had good reviews, but I have no personal experience.

I did it by myself and it is a bugger of a job, but it's a permanent fix.

It was hard to open initially, but they do free up and both sides slide well now, but most importantly they seal well and are rattle free :D

one of my rear windows ****tered, so I drilled out the frame, took it down to my local glazier, who fitted a single pane of 'windscreen' glass. I was very surprised at how cheap it was - maybe $50 or so. I never opened the windows anyway, so was pleased to see the back of the felt troubles...

My 110 is in at the dealer getting the rear sliding window catches replaced under warranty. Mine were all corroded from new on the outside. Have to say land rover have been awesome at fixing up any thing under warranty.
