Gday all picked up my new defender 90 on saturday ...........83kms on the clock so far. After looking at drivers side air intake with view to fitting a snorkel found it was kinda glued on with blue tack that won't re attach .........a few dobs of silicone fixed it.
my question is to do with the Alpine radio unit. It has a slot for a USB stick.
I loaded music from my computer onto a stick..........it played merrily on my computer and SWMBO's but when I insert it into Alpine slot it comes up no file .........very confusing for a non young person......I want to get my subwoofer cranking...........Operaters manual was not helpfull

Cheers Paul

Might be due to formatting of USB stick? FAT32 is still the most common format. A friend of mine would format his USB stuff to suit his apple working environment. He now sticks with FAT32 for portable memory.

What file system does your Alpine unit support via USB and how have you formatted your USB stick?

Just a guess, but it may support only FAT and perhaps you have USB stick formatted for NTFS.

Like a say, just a guess.

I have a JVC head unit with a USB slot in my Disco.

I have found that I can play from some USB sticks but not from others. I've tried all possible formats on the ones that don't work but the head unit just won't read them. I seems to be a hardware incompatibility.

Try a different USB stick.

just a thought, Is the music in MP3 or WMA format? Most music files need to be in 1 of those for the unit to play. The computer can play any format automatically mostly so not a good check point. and yes most USB sticks need to be in FAT or FAT32 for connection to head units.
Or contact Alpine Alpine Electronics of Australia (http://www.alpine.com.au/index.php) , Would be most unlikely the L/R dealer would know what you were on about! :D

Thanks for the replies thought a little bit harder and went for a $11 plug lead for an Ipod probably holds more music than a USB anyway
