1995MY: How do you test the idle air control valve on a 4.6?

As per thread title, I have uneven idle and near stalling when slowing down (worse when cold).

Cleaned the IACV and various sensors, MAF, etc with contact cleaner still no good.

Any help very much appreciated. :D

You should be able to feel the motor stepping back the plunger when the motor turns off.
I took it off and blanked off the hole and started the car and you can see it moving in and out, but then it wound to far and the plunger come off.
Ive a similar problem to yourself, with a 'stepper motor short circuit' fault code -though continuity is perfect.
