The Land Rover "Side Tubes" are not sliders, they are just dress items.
They come in Black or Chrome.
I have a pair of Chrome tubes I took off up in my garage roof - they will stay there until I sell the car!
I've got a set of these:
http://www.aulro.com/afvb/d3-d4-rrs/137969-off-road-equipment-2.html#post1569752
Much stronger and cheaper too!

When mine break I will get GOE sliders.

I have put a few dings and gouges in them....but that's only 12 months of offroad. GOE sliders would have probably only shown scratches.

The left one has taken the weight of the car for a short period down south and hung in there.

They are no good for stepping on and are slippery when wet.

GOE sliders cheaper and stronger.

Looked at them and then got the steel ones. No dents in mine and I can use with a high lift jack when needed. Don't try that with the MLR ones. :D

MLR are nice people and would fit the real sliders if you needed them too.

I got some sliders custom made by a guy in Melbourne. (GSE RIG GEAR in Kilsyth)
Very strong, and you can stand on them no problem.
I'll put some pics up here if you want, but I already did in a thread on here called "barred up":D
Cost was approx $800 all up.
I bet he'd fit a winch too!

Cheers.
Rohan.

I ordered a set of these:
Land Rover LR3 LR4 Discovery 3 Discovery 4 Rock Sliders Tree Guards (http://www.voyagerracks.com/lr3_lr4_rock_sliders.htm)
through Peninsula Rangie down in Frankston (VIC). Very strong, and as others have said, will support a Hi Lift Jack and I regularly use them to get access to the roof racks.

Here are some pics with them on my D4

herBlick,

A member on this site Disco3QLD (Brad) fabricated a few sets a while ago for forum members and i purchased a set.

I opted for the narrow step and they fit well are very strong and provide piece of mind when off road. I would however next time go for the wider step as they would be more useful as a step but I am very happy with them.

Not sure if Brad is still on the site or indeed making these for anyone but you could follow him up.

There a re a few photos in the forum of these sliders fitted, but the look very much like Guppy's ones.

By the way Guppy, that is nicely set up D4 !!!

I too have a set of Brad's sliders and only got them off him late last year.

While he may not be 'onsite' all the time, if you PM him, he is pretty good at getting in touch and discussing the item with you.

I have the wider set, with a bit of grip tape sourced from a ship chandler they work well as a step - my 4 year old finds the leap into the car much easier, and it is easier for me to get to the roof racks for bikes and boards as well.

I have been very happy with mine.

This might be a silly question but where to they bolt up to? I have had a look under my newly purchased D3 and there is nothing obvious there to bolt it to.

If you take off the plastic sill trims you will find built in fixing points on both the vertical face and underside.
In fact the factory side tubes and steps use the same holes to fix off.

How to take the trims off, well that is a different story. ;)

I to purchased Brad's sliders, they are great, well made, strong and easy to fit and at the price he sells them for they make most others look extremely expensive to say the least.

I to went with the wide ones and apart there obvious off road usefulness, with them fitted to a D3/4 at extended height you can park in any car park and never worry ever gain about people opening their doors and putting dents in yours. ...;)

Another big tick for Brads sliders. They are very well made at a good price and delivery is quick. They are also very easy to fit.
My wife is also very happy as she is vertically challenged. :wasntme:

Hey Guys
Does anybody out there have any pics of Brads sliders fitted on their D3/D4?
Either or both of the narrow sliders and the wider ones?

Jimlr

Yep, be good to see pix of narrow and wide brads sliders fitted, next to each other.

It looks like brads sliders replace the entire lower sill cover, therefore not requiring the cover to be butchered as in figment of factory steps - is that correct?

Also do brads sliders allow for the fitment of factory style mud flaps? Or are we looking at series type flaps to go with the sliders?

Here are a set of Brad's Narrow ones:
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2014/07/1048.jpg (http://s193.photobucket.com/user/VSK5/media/00729EC5-1D06-41D2-ACFE-127F36788F7F_zps8addb5f9.jpg.html)

Yes they do completely wrap the bottom and side of the sill.
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2014/06/507.jpg (http://s193.photobucket.com/user/VSK5/media/D3/428403AD-A73C-48C2-AA97-92AFABF9A2A9_zpsissvrcxs.jpg.html)

Here is the front detail: no the standard mud flaps don't fit, you can fit your own using truck mudflaps from Supercheap Auto.
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2014/06/508.jpg (http://s193.photobucket.com/user/VSK5/media/D3/D26654CE-925A-45DA-9E00-41979DFA1338_zpsxkmjkrgd.jpg.html)

As long as your sills are not badly bent they should bolt straight on using the factory fitted treads located in both the side and bottom.

Hint: when fitting the sliders use a trolley jack with a plywood top ( hole or something else to stop it sliding) to raise the sliders into position so you can fit the retaining bolts.

The wider set:

I have be deliberating over narrow versus wide fit for almost a year now, but the last time I contacted Brad he said that he coud make the decision easier for me - he now only makes them in wide fitting! I don't know if he has reversed that decision since then, but it might also make your decision easier too. :)

Hey guys.
Can't decide over which rock slider for my Disco 3. The GOE, APT or Brad's wide rock slider? I want the benefit of side steps.
Cheers.

I have recently installed Brad's wide steps and you can see some close ups here (http://www.aulro.com/afvb/d3-d4-rrs/181406-d4-rocksliders-steps-2.html#post2214381). I have stuck some pre-cut black grip tape 2 packets of these from Bunnings (http://www.bunnings.com.au/croc-grip-black-anti-slip-grit-strips-3-pack_p3961675)) to the top surface and the kids like it a lot (even though they have been surviving for 4 years without it!).

I'm another happy customer who'd gladly recommend Brad's sliders - very well made and finished.

Only one very minor gripe was that the one under-sill fitting hole on either side did not line up - not a major issue as the 11 other holes lined up ok...

The instructions available in the thread are spot on.

Mated the sliders with a pair of D1 front mud flaps which fit perfectly and, while not looking too out of place, actually prevent the sides of my white 2014 D4 getting filthy - something that the OEM front mudflaps don't do.

Can post pics if anyone is interested.

Cheers,
RickO

Please do, I need to fit something that is more servicable than the OEM mud flaps that I currently have.

Thanks

I'd like to see some pics as well RickO when you get a moment if that's cool.

I to have Brads rock sliders on the D3, they are great and have saved me a couple of times, once from real bad damage when I slid down a slippery hill backwards and ended up parked on a rock on the slider. If The slider had not been there to stop the Disco I would have lost the back corner of the Disco into a bank that would have wrecked it.

I have been meaning to get a set for the D4 as well but have not as of yet, hopefully I won't regret that laxness this weekend when the D4 gets its first workout up around Lithgow. ...

They're fixed just using the crappy OEM screw plugs - so far so good.

The D1 mudflaps cost me about $40 from the UK and stop 99% of the muck thrown up by the front wheels

Hope this helps....

My sliders have taken a beating and have plenty of gouges and scapes, I did notice this dent in them too! (underneath not the scrape on the side)

In fact I've had to loosen the fixing bolts and move the sliders back down maybe 10mm on body, shows they are definitely worth the investment!

Hey Guppy, I reversed the mounts on my foxwing. It now sits down much better and doesn't look so silly sticking up in the air. I am 6'2" and I don't have any problems walking around under it when it is set up.

I have terrafirma sliders on my D3. They are subtle and neat and work well. Only issue was that if you have rear air you need to cut the i side lip of them down in the passenger side to allow room for the pipe work.

Thanks Andrew - I ended up reversing the mounts after that trip (was the first with it) - and now much better.
No rear air (ATM) just finished installing the ARB compressor in the aux battery compartment and happy with it being used from there

My apologies for the slow reply, I no longer have the D3 and didn't take any pics from when I fitted them but its pretty basic, you take off the plastic sill cover and there are various securing threaded bolt holes that run under D3/D4's that most rock sliders bolt straight up to. I'm not sure if Brad sells his sliders anymore, shame if he doesn't as they were very good and stopped alot of damage that would have happened otherwise.

From memory what I saw when I fitted mine it was a case of taking the sill covers off so the bolt holes became obvious and accessible. Plus the sill covers just provide another place for mud to get stuck in.

Sill is retained in these holes, so rocksliders replace the plastic sills, unless you find a way to keep sills and drill through covers.

Yes, the uk roads abd liberal use of 'salt' during winter kills cars very quickly.

APT will do with or without cover plates, but only top or bottom, not both. Spoke to Ben last week, ordered mine with Alu top chequer plate.

Yes, the plastic sills have to be taken off, plus there may be a strip needed for the bottom edge of the door to seal against the slider, as it's skinnier than the plastic sill.
