Hi everyone,

I am currently looking at buying a pair of HID driving lights for my new Def 110 (still coming to AU) and found the main brands are way too pricy.

I came across this Chinese kit and need to know if anyone has these and opinions.

Here is the link: http://www.sun-yee.com/feature-bot/pair-55w-7-hid-xenon-driving-euro-spread-offroad-work-light-4x4-4wd-ute-truck-red-frame-nfa.html

Some feedback will be appreciated.

So they look ok,, are they?
Not a bad price too,, I'd much prefer the Fyrlites ('s), but can't afford them at the moment.
I'm guessing I'll get a good feel for just how good or bad the standard lights are when I do a few hours driving dusk-night on the trip at Easter.

The ones in your link are the same as pair I bought off ebay from china for my Defender.
i paid less than $150 delivered about a year ago.

Had a problem with a short in one. The internal ballast is poorly installed and I needed to rebuild it with the lugs on the ballast removed. This solved the short circuit issue

The mounting adjustment notches are not fine enough. One notch is too high and next too low. Used a small stainless bottle screw for stability and infinite adjustment

if you are prepared to "fine tune" you will be happy with the performance for the price.
They are very bright.

That is what I expected with Chinese product, but they are 1/4 of the price of Hella and Narva. Thanks for the review.

Just letting you know, the standard high beam on the new defenders is much better than my previous pumas high beam, I'm just waiting for my new bull bar to arrive so I can put my spotties on! Tempted to go with HID as I run them on my excavators...just can't cough up the dollars for 2 spotties on my ute.

Well, I think for around $100 it will not be a great loss even if they last for a couple of years or stolen. Better than paying $800+ on other HID:p

If you want to save money, just get a set of Narva's from Repco, wire them up properly with a relay and decent sized cable and they should be fine for most applications.

I have been looking at the Narva Ultima 175 Halogen and saw them as low as $140 for a pair and I agree they are good value for money for Swedish product.
I am still keen to get HID, they are brighter light. My other vehicle is a VW and has HID headlights and they are completely apart from halogen, so I can only imagine what the driving lights will look like.

I got a 70watt hid conversion off fleabay for my Lightforce Genesis - a reasonably expensive kit from memory but the seller had great feedback.

Has proven to be money well spent - given the lights an enormous boost in output and (as the kit came with a range of adjustment shims) the beam pattern is unaffected too. Had a flogging over corrugations, mud, rivers, etc no dramas.

My advice is too look for a kit with good rep and you should be happy.

I've got some of the same coming for my D2 off ebay, but one spread beam, one spot. Should come this week hopefully.

Recently put a 70W pair of these lights on my 130. Cost was $170 delivered ex ebay. At this price it isn't a major issue when a rock or a roo goes thru' them.

The notched angle adjustment suited the angle of the bar so no problems there.

Not sure how long they will last but so far no problems and much better light than halogen.

We are talking headlights here and not spotlights aren't we?
If so and please correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't they illegal to fit after market if you cannot get them as an oem option?

We are discussing Driving lights not headlights and yes HID headlight upgrade is not legal unless. Your car has self leveling mechanism and I think also should have washers. That's what I found out.

I got mine from here:

7" 12V 55W 1x Spot/Pencil + 1x Flood Beam HID Off Road Xenon Lamp Driving Light | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/221125132242)

$120, bought Sunday arrived today. Haven't wired them up (only came in post today and bolted on during lunch), but I see what you mean about not a huge amount of adjustment as teeth should be finer. One flood one spot.
