Some of you may remember me looking at V8 D2s, well I found a TD5 for a price I couldn't refuse. 265 000kms, factory optioned Three Amigos and SRS light on, got a bit of what appears to be a belt squeal too.
......
Just found a wicked vibration at over 90km/h. Is this a tailshaft vibration?

Re the vibration, I'd get the wheel balance looked at first, and if it's been used offroad check that there isn't any mud etc. stuck to the inside of a wheel

Could be the front prop shaft. Chock the wheels, handbrake off, in neutral and climb under, spin the shafts and go from there. The smallest crack or sign of wear is all it takes.
Also if it is the shaft it's not a good idea to keep driving.

Check the rear propshaft rotoflex coupling (donut thing in front of the diff) and the rubber bush inside the end of the propshaft. The donut might look OK as it sits, but take it off and flex it to look for cracks.

Thanks for the input guys. Checked it out this morning. Front propshaft need replacing, at least the uni closest to the Transfer Case definitely need work. Rear Tailshaft donut also pretty gone, I'll get one today hopefully replace it.
Added motivation of mates wanting to go 4wding with it this weekend!

Make sure you do the bushing when you do the rotoflex replacement.
Not easy, but the vibration just comes back if you don't.

Cheers Steve, yeah replaced the rubber coupling tonight. Havent quite got the right spanner to get the front tailshaft off, but i can assure you it is stuffed. New greasable propshaft waiting to go in.
Britparts in Perth have looked after me, good vibe I'm already getting as a first time Land Rover owner.

Britparts
Could be interesting. People on this site generally don't think very highly of Britparts.
I had my shaft reconditioned by Hardy Spicer for $270.
There is this thread on the site regarding the shaft. http://www.aulro.com/afvb/good-oil/61452-d2-prop-shaft-secrets-ujs-double-cardan-joints.html

I think you will find that is the brand Britpart, not the outlet Britparts

Are you sure it's belt squeal you have and not a leaky exhaust manifold? They can sound similar. I'd reckon on a td5 a leaky manifold is more common. Check the studs mounting the manifold see if any are loose, or for signs of soot at around the manifold.
Lots of info on here about it and how to solve the problem if it is.
