Using fascia buttons for lights

Can you use the LR fog light buttons (front and back) to drive spottie relays?

Thinking of buying a genuine switch and putting it in the spot spare to run a LED bar on the rack as its illuminated and nice and neat.

It's not a click and down button like the cruise though. Is that an issue?

Yes, it is an issue. You can't use the "soft touch" buttons as these switch through the BCU, they are not switches in themselves. I found out this the hard way.

I think you can get normal on/off switches that go into the same spot that will work.

Find a used cruise control switch and swap over the facia
With a bit of trimming on the locating tab it will fit where you want it
All switches are the same and are either latching or not, but the wiring connectors are different so if you can grab a connector with a pigtail of loom connected

Someone on the forum has installed two fog light switches. One for the original fog lights and one for spot lights. There was an image on this site and I recall Pedro being the curious cat asking what it was for.

Plenty have done this, it is very easy once you have the switch

Another option for the switch is the heated seat switch as they are latching, although maybe hard to find over here, I am sure eBay UK will have some

Damn. Serves me right for not asking first. Got a large shipment from Rimmer Bros today (window regulators, motors etc) and on a whim ordered a fog lamp switch thinking it would work.

It was only on the drive home today at the lights i was playing the with the switches already there and realised my issue. Oh well.

Guess ill just have make a new shopping list up for more parts! :)

If you like you can still use the non latching fog lamp switch you've ordered. But you will need to install an special type of relay in between the fog lamp switch and the lights called a "changover" or "latching" relay.

Eg: http://www.narva.com.au/products/browse/changeover

Use this type of relay instead of a normal driving light relay.
