235/85/16 on Disco 1??

Will 235/85/16's fit on a stock Disco1?? if not what needs to be done so they will?

Will not fit stock height D1. You need minimum 2" lift & then depends on Wheel offset.

Used to be a pretty common conversion. I had 'em on standard steelies with a 2" lift.

But they will rip up the rear mudguards. You'll need to cut them to the profile of the classic Rangie. If you don't, the tyres will do it for you.

Forgot to add your gearing will of course be 15% out. Either change your CW&Ps to 4.11s (not 4.10s!)

or what I did, just changed to a Defender speedo drive & changed the t/case hi range to the Defender 1.4.

Thought that might be the answer as the 235/70/16's on at the moment seem to be a tight fit without actually hitting anything, although there are some small rub marks on rear chassis rail from inside of tyre. Previous owner might have had oversized tyres though as the Duellers on it are/were new when I bought it.
I just want to do a bit of experimenting (or get some sage advice from the august members on here LOL) without spending a fortune whilst doing so. What's the tallest size tyre, don't want wide, that will fit stock height, 1" & 2" lift & with that in mind will coil spacers of those heights work ok??

245/75/16's are a large diameter than stock, although not by much and they still require a camel cut.

245's also put your speedo exactly right, rather than being about 6% out. :)

Edit: Suspension lift makes no difference... It's the width of the tyre that hits the rear guard. The camel cut is to the guard on the horizontal... So increasing the height has no impact on how wide your tyre is in the wheel arch.
