I'm thinking about going with either of these, but true to form, can't decide

Defender & S111 Console Dash (http://www.raptor-engineering.co.uk/defender-s111-console-dash)

MUD Defender Console - Interior Trim - Products (http://www.mudstuff.co.uk/products/interior-trim/mud-defender-console.html)

The claim the Raptor takes 20 minutes to install! Obviously that doesn't include fitting gauges!

I have the dash top Raptor pod on the defer. I got it at a good price but have to say I am impressed with it. Very solid, much more than the ABS mudstuff 1. I have had the kids use it as a hand grip to get into the middle seat! :o The mounting method I had to mod a bit as I could not stop it sliding on my rough roads.
30 mins? Took me a lot longer than that to fit up the dash top! Cheers Scott

To me, one looks like it came from the factory and the other looks like it was booty fabbed with a set of tinsnips and costs more.

Yes have to agree with the looks between the 2 :( But the raptor is fabbed not molded! And it does fit in a defender, not a rolls! :D

I have seen the Raptor fitted to a Defender. To me it looked like a very well made bit of gear. If it was me I would go the black model as I can imagine you would get glare from the silver finish.

I have the MUD one. I went for it purely because its more of a factory look/fit.

Raptor has screw on removable face plates which make it easy to get to the connections or even replace with a new plate and start again. The MUD is cut once plastic and then if you want to get to connections the entire plastic face has to come away from the mount. Also the plastic MUD can vibrate and squeak, I doubt the raptor has that issue.

I think the raptor is worth more than the MUD. If I had the choice again I'd probably go for an all black raptor.

Altho I dont own a Deefer yet,I'd go with the Rapture.
Looks 100% better than the plastic jobbie from Mud.

I installed the raptor dash and the Mudpod. Prefer the raptor as its made of metal so should last another 60 years :D Has made an awesome difference.

I bought the mud first, took a good look when it arrived and thought there is no way that is going to last a few big trips on crap roads without rattling and squeaking and generally annoying the crap out of me.. So I orded the Raptor, had them cut the holes out to suit what I wanted and couldn't be happier. Looks better thsn another chunk of plastic in a car that plastic doesn't suit, IMO at least.

Fits nicely and is held in place securely. Really easy to unscrew the fascias to get to the wiring, which I've done a few times now.

Couldn't be happier.

Took more than 20 minutes to fit, but was quite straightforward. Has taken hours and hours to wire up...

Wonder If its possible to fit a double din head unit in the Raptor setup?

Here's my MUD dash.

It's been fantastic and had some real work off-road touring without any vibration issues. It's as tight as the day it went in, still with room for extras. I think they blend into the cabin space really well. I'm not sure how you'd break it short of testing an axe on it. In mine, I cut the slots using a fine disc in the grinder with a steady hand. I barely had to touch it to get a cleanly cut line with a perfect fit for the radio and switch mount.

The pic is at night and the only one I have right now...

And what's wrong with booty fab ?

I'm pretty handy with the electric shears and nibbler :D

Had the mudstuff in my 130 I spent almost every weekend on dirt roads and didn't vibrate once. I really loved how it blended in to the dash and looks factory.

So guys didn't have a mudstuff I had an iron goat dash. It come precut with a switch panel all I had to do was cut the holes for my gauges and power plug

I'd be interested if any other people with Raptor dashes could post pics of their set-up showing what they have mounted and where (radios, guagaes, switches etc) please.

They have quite a range of options for console top and bottom panels:

http://www.raptor-engineering.co.uk/defender-s111-console-dash

but (of course) not exactly what I think I want which is .

Top - Carling switches, guages.
Bottom - DIN (cd player) and CB radio slot.
Also need to fit a couple of 12V sockets in there somewhere too.

So... bring out yer pics !!!!

One issue with the MUD pod I had (last Defender) was that there was insufficient clearance to mount switches in the top angled panel and radio in teh top of the front part - although this is probably a function of the limitations of the Defender dash shape more than anything else.

I have a raptor dash and pod... But I've only fitted the pod as the dash fouls the gear stick . I need to pull my finger out and make a new one that is more suitable (still using the lt85 one with the r380).

Top section is an icom400 and the stereo head unit.

Bottom row is two 12v plugs, then two missile switches (winch master and one spare ATM) and then a row of 9 carling switches (compressor, rear locker, winch in-out, power to stereo, interior LED, driving lights, and three yet to be hooked up).

Easy enough to bend the shifter slightly with a bit of heat and a vice. Doesn't need much and you end up with it sitting in a better position anyway IMO.

Did you have to get the fascia panels custom cut to suit that fitment of gear ? If not which ones did you get?

Where exactly along the length of the gear stick did you bend it, by how much, and was it easy to remove to do ?

Yes, custom cut. I did it via email with them. Told them what I wanted on the lower section "and fit as many carlings as will fit after the plugs and missile switches". Had to supply dimensions for icom cutout as its not a unit they are familiar with. Head unit is just a single din so standard size that they know.

Remove gearstick, one nut to undo and takes 2 minutes. Bend just above the splined section at the base using heat, vice and brute force. Make sure you wrap the sleeved rubber dampener (?) section above where you are bending with a wet rag and keep it wet so it doesnt burn or melt.

Didn't bend it a lot. A little at one end = a fair bit more at the other end. Just have play it by ear and trial fit as you go.

I do not have the center dash but I fitted the "Raptor" pod and am mostly pleased with it. The only down is the screws are not stainless and have turned rust colored instead of black! Apart from that nice and solid! the squarish lines suit the Deefer! :D
I have the spottie and tray lights switches in the right hand section with the hazards.

Cheers Scott

You can buy a set of teh stainless screws from teh raptor site.

Send me a PM if you like and when I order my stuff (may be a few months) I can pick up a set for you to save what might otehrwise be stupid freight costs....
