WOW WOW WOW is all I can say!
two diesel engine choices - 190 and 215KW!
two extra seast (kids only) in the back
two types of 4wd systems
AND
off road height available at up to 80km/hr!!!
Excerpts of media release:
Land Rover says the re-engineered air suspension system with its new +35mm intermediate setting means that the off-road mode can remain available at much higher speeds (80km/h – up from 50km/h) than was possible before, which pays off in terrain with long, rutted dirt roads.
Depending on your needs, you’ll be able to specify one of two full-time 4WD systems on offer. Hardcore off-road enthusiasts are catered to via a system that comprises a two-speed transfer case with low-range option. The system has a front-rear 50/50 percent default torque split, and 100 percent locking capability.
The alternative system is 18kg lighter and features a single-speed transfer case with a Torsen differential that automatically distributes torque to the axle with most grip. The default front-rear torque split of 42/58 percent is designed to provide a rear-wheel drive bias for sharper on-road driving dynamics.
At launch, the new Range Rover Sport will be offered with a choice of four engines – two supercharged petrol engines (375kW 5.0-litre supercharged V8 and the new 250kW 3.0-litre supercharged V6) and two diesels (190kW 3.0-litre TDV6 and 215kW SDV6).

Yeah, I watched the launch online.
Daniel Craig was the celeb of course.
I LOVE THE SOUND of the supercharged V8. ;)
Just playing with the options now.

Am I the only one that thinks the ass end looks like a Ford Territory?

Heh, a couple of questions:
Stornaway - tempted to come back to the "dark side" ?
Gordon - ready to put a deposit down?
Me - nah not a newie, perhaps after a D4 ;)

Not really. Will wait until all the engine options are released (end of the year) before making any decision. Not happy with the option combinations on the UK sites, hopefully the Australian ones will be closer to what I'd want. Still think the back end looks a little funny.
Quite happy with the current Sport :)

Ooo yes, very tempted! especially now its a genuine 7 seater (we only ever have under 10's in the 6/7 seats of the D4 so kiddy size extra seats is fine):)
Although, in a year or so - a low kilo. MY2010 8 speed auto FFRR Vogue 4.4TDV8 will also lure me...!
Hmmm, problem is, the D4 is just so well set up now and we all know how much the (after market) extras add to the drive away price....:(

am I right its 20 inch wheels or bigger - no 19's? Hmmm!
And an e-diff still?
cheers

There are supposed to be 19" rims, but they're not coming up on the configurators. Rear eDiff is still an option.
Personally don't want 7 seats, but doesn't seem to be a way to spec the car (at this stage) without them!

Gordon

Haggis.. What engine combo were you after then??
Bear in mind that this is a lighter platform so the power:weight ratio is going to be much better.
Also bear in mind that, in practice, we've found a standard RaRo (L405 - standard rubber) is probably better off-road than a D4 with muds!!! :o

Anyone else find they HAD to have the "customer configurable interior mood lighting"? Or was that just me? :)

I'm curious about the hybrid platform, so will wait till I can try one.
Although it doesn't feel big on-road, the L405 is too big for what I'd want off-road.

The new RRS is more Rangie than D4 now, should the RRS forum now be part of the FFRR forum?

It is a shame as it is no longer a proper 4wd as standard - dual range is an at cost option and it has only a 4 star crash rating - a real surprise.

In a way, it's now a proper 'Sport' version of the New Range Rover...

TBH - It makes sense if it's only going to be bought as a 'Toorak Tractor'... :(

Unfortunately marketing of the Sport in Aust has been different to the UK and other markets.
As a general statement in the UK you could specify your engine and trim level separately however in Aust trim has generally be linked to the engine.
Eg Basic trim was fitted to the TDV6 (the lowest spec vehicle) then if you got the naturally aspirated petrol you got a higher level of trim (mid spec) and the highest spec vehicle was the V8 supercharged petrol.
It will be interesting to see whether this philosophy will continue with the new model or the link between engine and trim level will be weakened.

If the new Model RRS owners want to head off to the Range Rover section then there is to nothing stopping them. I would suspect most existing model RRS owners would want to stay here given the existing ties.
People's thoughts?
cheers,
