trying to sort the front springs and rubbers on my 107" which is going to be used on my property at coverty.

both the eyes are broken on the rear of the front springs.

they look like they attach to the second top leaf?

what am i best doing?

getting a second hand pack or just replace those leaves?

do they do much?

then the shackle rubbers....

both rear shackles and pins aare as new ...

i just need to replace the rubbers front and rear of the springs and in the chassis on the rear shackles.

whats the best solution there these days?

548205 x 4 for the spring shackles

and 569746 x 2 for the chassis bushings?

or ?

is there a superpro kit that makes the lot easy?

TIA

(i need to get this one mobile so i can get it up to wattlemere and make room for my 80")

I tend to think that if they've cracked hen they must be doing something and working hard. Personally, I would change the entire spring because I'd be thinking what else has become marginal and what are the consequences if the part fails.

what is the best way to proceed with new bushes these days?

are there superpro kits avail for the front of these?

or am i better sticking to the original style bushes but have heard lots of stories of the not lasting long so am a bit perplexed with what way to turn...

Afraid I gave up on standard bushes some years ago. I am now a firm polybush user, last just as long and so much easier to replace when the time comes.
Cheers

I tend to agree, I was going throu a set of original rubber suspension bushes on a yearly basis on my old 109" series 1 I guess going off roading most weekends dint help things, so I went the "polly" bush and the were very long lasting easily 5 years :D

Poly bushes on a series one is an offence that calls for capital punishment to be reintroduced. Especially if they are bright yellow.

Yes. As long as you use blue underbody neons too.

If you use good quality bushes from a trusted supplier (ie not britpart ones) and tension and lubricate pins as necessary the original bushes last a long time. Main killer of the original style bushes is people tightening shackle pins with no weight on the suspension, then when you Lower the vehicle the bushes are loaded up already and soon destroy themselves.

Reckon many would have Maurice still using microfich slides to find part numbers as well and watching black and white telly if he were alive - poor bugger - consigned to live in the past.

That said I agree completely with the yellow (I am an offender) and wish they'd produce plain black ones but guess the is a UV justification / complication there somewhere.

Anyone getting only a year from standard bushes is - as Andy said - doing a one step tightening. My dislike of the originals comes from my lack of a press to remove the outer tube when they finally fail. The best solution I found was a thin layer of copperslip before fitting.... but in these days of convenience I sucummed to poly....

so which ones are you using?

isn't there something about the series 1 front spring chassis bushes being wider than the available series 2/3 chassis bushes or ?

Measure the chassis width of your S1 against your S2C/R, under the front spring rear shackle, that should tell you if they are a different width, cheers Dennis

the spare bushes i have for my series ii swb are the same all be it that they are britpart :(

such is life....

I seem to think that the chassis bush for the Series 3 109 (front) is a larger diameter than the earlier Series L/R bushes, someone will be along shortly to correct me if I'm wrong:( cheers Dennis:angel:

The longer one is the front chassis bush on S111. All the others are the same.

We had this discussion with Diana in my Royal thread.
My parts book shows two short bushes so I cut down two of the longer standard rubber bushes and pressed them in.
The inner tubes have to butt together, the outers are a bit shorter same as the original.

The front chassis bush was the same as rear plus a short bush, you can now get a full length one but it can be difficult to get in. Cutting down one to make the short works fine.
I have found if you use good bushes and set them up right they will last many years.
