Hi, would anyone be able to tell me what this controls?

Its in a 1998 300tdi defender.

The air con.....but with the knob missing my guess it may not be working.

It's the air control for the Air con58448


This is a pic of mine with the two dials , you are just missing the dials. Top in for the force of air and bottom for the cold temp of the air.

Oh, ok thanks Rick, that's what I basically meant, ie it's not an aftermarket bit of kit.

It was an Australian developed and supplied system for Oz vehicles only though, by the now defunct AMC air conditioning.

The South African ones had a similar setup, with a little more colour to the dual action knob if I remember correctly.:D

The rest of Africa got UK exports with completely useless aircons. Mine (South African Spec) needed repairs in Lusaka and Land Rover Zambia refused to deal with LRSA as they only dealt with LRUK ... thus my aircon couldn't be fixed:eek:
