Just thought id share one of the little "Joys" of owning a Defender:P

So a good start to April with some half decent rain, here I am chugging along nicely in my 1995 300TDI Defender on the m5 merging onto the M7 when I feel that ever so "comforting" feeling water seeping through my right volley eventually soaking it. I love my defender even if it does soak my foot when it rains :)

A mate always used to say "defenders are like the titanic.....they leak even though you can't always see the hole"

I have to say I'm a bit over the water leaks! More worried about all the electrics in the dash with the water coming in behind. Think I've almost stopped it, put a rag in the kink in the door seal today and a rag on the dash all day in the rain, both rags soaked but floor and dash dry!

one of the things i loved about the defender and the series vehicles are the free aircon just as well it has it because the actual aircon does not work as well

You guys should complain!!! My first car was an Austin A70. In wet weather the ritual was this... remove socks and shoes and roll up long trousers, put on raincoat (this was inside the car). Why? Because water poured through the almost non existent sun roof rubbers and splashed up past the pedals for a similar reason. However...no amount of rain ever stopped the motor. It had a waterproof covering of years of greasy gunk all over it. :D:D:D

I recently had the wet foot issue with water coming in and collecting in the driver side speaker. Tracked it down to the seals around front vents above bonnet.
Problem solved, I've silicon sealed the vents up.

Now I don't have a wet foot.

Previously I did a water crossing with my air vents up and washed my firewall out.

You'd think I'd learn after the first F@#k (F@#k) up.
Especially when the first one was a stagnant boghole in the wombat forest.

Sue, I'm sure your time will come. That's when you know you're a defender driver.

Next time wear gum boots and toughen up princess...... :D (I can say this seeing as he's my son...)

If it doesn't leak, how do you know when it's raining?:o

Umm.. the windscreen is wet and the wipers are working like those from a 1950s holden fj - you know, the ones that when you put your speed up the wipers slow down and when you coast along the wipers speed up... (Oh when 110pete's wipers are turned off they grind to a halt 3/4 of the way down to their stop position and with a couple of wacks on the windscreen they retreat to where they should be stopped near the bottom of the w/s)...

Sorry Sue has a more recent version of the defender... You know it's raining when a normal toymotor or the like would have nice variable wiper intermittent control and you're stuck with only one version of an intermittent wipe.. ;) (Hey are there conversions so that I can get variable intermittent control of wiper... a job to google...)

Mine doesn't leak either, it does do other landrover things but it doesn't leak. I went into the dealer that I bought it from yesterday to get anther plastic grill thing that covers the air intake because the one I had fell off out bush and the dealer looked quite concerned, he said, "You've had that landie for a couple of months now, that should have fallen off weeks ago!"

:D Love it, what other group of people would describe some many faults/idiosyncrasies with there car with a smile. Buy the way not all Pumas are watertight, our girl leaks when & wherever she wants. Heavy rain, light rain, car wash. Or not at all.
Its never boring owning a Defender.[thumbsupbig]

Now that made me laugh!!

Mine's not fallen off yet - but it might pay for me to start carrying around some sikaflex in anticipation though lol.. :p

The dealer and I both had a laugh over it, and they had no problems giving me a replacement cover so alls good. I just can't think of another brand of vehicle where you would have a laugh about something falling off it with one of your states major dealers, owning these things is just fun!

Not all of us are as lucky as you Sue my my12 leaks like a siv down the firewall and through the rear guards. Just did a lap of tassel awesome by the way one night at cradle mountain and a decent puddle. With less than 10000 one the clock think I might make the dealers resolve this one.

Ps Sue my wife loves her defender as a daily drive all worked out good

Mine has a lovely double drip up behind the dash somewhere :)

You hear a plastic'y drip then 2 -3 seconds later the comforting wetness on the right leg :)

Consistency is the key for me, as long as it always wets me the same way...

I'm apparently as lucky as Sue...

My 2010 90 has not leaked a drop in its life. Well, bit of a white lie... last time I took it through the automated laser jet wash (I treat the 90 to one of those once a month:D) I got a bit of a leak on the left rear sliding window...

Cheers,

Lou
