H T Leads and Coil packs D2

Hi all , can anyone tell me if you know of a way to replace ht leads and coil packs on a disco 2 without removing half of the inlet system . any tips would be very welcome . cheers :(

The manifold top isn't that hard to get off, I have done a few. The tricky bit is to get the coil pack top bolts right out and the bottom ones unscrewed 3 turns before lifting the manifold top. A 1/4" socket set and a couple of long extensions will get down to the bottom bolts with an 8mm socket. Apart from the main row of bolts down the middle there are only a few hoses and plugs to undo. Use sticky tape in the socket to prevent losing the end bolts down the valley.

I saw someone recently put a thick foam mattress over the motor so they could lie across it for easier access to the coil packs. :D

I have replaced the leads once, but next time I am paying someone to do it.

Sounds as bad as it reads in the manual! I am thinking about letting my front tyres down and I was going to ask about taking a engine mount out for more access or is this more troubles than worth ?( I have had a few cars now being 51 and all !!,all of them V8s and have done most of my work to the point of complete engine rebuilds and i have only had to replace the water pump and radiator in the Disco ,not to bad !:). but those bloody coil packs .looks like I got to get my hands dirty

Even with the plenum off, once you can see the coil packs and you unbolt the 4 bolts holding it down, you will have to pull off the leads before you can extract the coil pack. I found it still difficult to extract, a bit of twisting it 90 degrees and tilting I eventually go it out.
When refitting I fitted the lower leads first and managed to squeeze it back in and then fitted the top leads with finger tips.
Fitting leads first the top leads stop it sliding in.
At least once down you wouldn't have to do them again for a long time

A note here: I replaced the last coil pack set by undoing all the leads off the spark plugs and separator clips, then the coil pack comes out high enough to see all the leads. As they were all numbered leads I texta'd all those lead numbers onto the old and new coil packs to make the procedure fool proof. Fit up the new pack/leads by number, thread the leads out to the sides and lower into place. Refit the two lower bolts in the coil packs to about 1/2 way only, fit and tighten the top two when the plenum is back on and finally do up the two bottom ones.

Don't bother removing engine mounts, just find something stable to stand on and use a soft pad to kneel on the bonnet closing panel.

No worth having a Disco without it........in fact it can be dangerous to go offroad without one.

Cheers m8 ' i have been told that with traction control working that u dont need center trans diff loc ?.but also have been told with the cd locked that u get a 50-50 power split but no traction control ? I have only had the Disco for about 1half years and its my first 4wd so still leaning ( i dont know y i left it so late Sweet car nice ride V8 and u can go offroad ) Hope u all have a good day Onyas Pat

The big issue is reversing down a hill when 4wding. When the D2 first came out with no CDL there were many incidents, some very serious from runaway vehicles when reversing down steep hills. Only the CDL will fix this.

Ok looks like an cd lock is on the cards !! thank you
