Hi, problems with a 97 Def 110.
Just been chasing a non-working horn fault(s). Found a broken wire at back of wiring terminal on the horn. Fixed that. Could have blown fuse in the past due to wavering against the mounting bracket- replaced two fuses in recent history.
Oh, for those interested- the horn is up behind the L.H. headlamp. Can be seen from above, in behind steering fluid resevoir, but hard to get at. Easier to remove lamp cluster and work blind.

This time though it was just not working-fuse o.k.
After replacing the terminal- still no go.

On search here - found reference to a loose steering column collar. The one in behind the S.wheel that locates the switch cluster.

Investigated. Not loose, but quite sloppy.
Tightened philips head on top of column and things improved, horn works!!!!
But collar not firm, so another turn.
Snapped a bit of plastic off. A flat arc, (like a bit of sidewall off a tin-can), about 40% of the circ. of the column and around 6mm high. Has a couple of ridges on it and a couple of protrusions on one edge. But I cannot see exactly where it came from.

The collar is now quite firmly mounted by by no means tight.

The intermittent horn problem is back. Traced to a loose connection on the back of the switch (stalk) cluster, but unable to see which/where it is crook. Need to take S.wheel off and the mechanism to turn it over a bit. Looking with a dentist's mirror is not good enough due to the maze.

Here are the questions about the plastic bit: Is it vital somehow? Can it be replaced easily (after removing S. wheel and switch combo)? Anyone got a spare whatever it is. Do I need to have that screw as tight as I have now?

Any clues anyone?
