we never had wingtops and we did stand on top of them. However I would take caution and if you are wanting to do it a lot i would invest in some

Yes.
Sooner or later, unless you weigh less than 20kg you will wish you had WT protectors. Or a car made of steel!
But WTPs look tuff!

A previous owner of mine thought it would be a good idea to stand on them.. I put protectors on mine to cover up the dents.
Unless you very light footed I would not. Especially if yours is a newer one as they have thinner panels - my bent ones are the thick county types!

I have always had them in my defenders and save the dipping of the wing tips that tends to happen with the defenders
This is a pic of the wife on the 90 wing tops taking pics of the sunrise at Ayres Rock

Had a couple of blokes with toyotas from the camp site come up to me and say we were wondering what they were for and the wings the night before and now we know. They thought it was a great idea.

If its just for washing your roof...... Buy a ladder. That way you can clean your gutters, hang a picture, prune the trees, rescue a cat that has been left out over night and climbed into a possum box(then dispose of said cat.)
Ladder will be cheaper and more useful.

G'day LoveB,
If you're ever thinking about getting a roofrack, a ladder will probably be fine but it can't hurt to have two routes to the roof....and you'll definitely need them if you're ever thinking of going for a rooftop tent.
I find that having them means I can rest tools on them, cups of tea, cans of beer and sit on them without worrying about scratching the paintwork of the vehicle.
Make sure you put some foam protection down underneath them and if you use rivnuts, you can remove them easily to respray them if they get too scratched up.

Love mine - wouldn't be without them.
I consider them necessary if you want your wing tops to remain undented.

Colour matched would be precious.. Silver on grey would look odd.. Black is the answer!

They've got to be black on Stornoway or Orkney Grey, no option!
Best place to buy them (right cut, curve and the best coating I ever came accross) is "All 4 Wheels" in the UK.
All 4 Wheels (http://www.all4wheels.com/page19.html)
I ordered mine and 5 days later they arrived with enough bubble wrap to cover the car if I wanted to - so not a mark.
I would also buy some stainless hex or torx fasteners for them from Stig fasteners while you're at it... (nice picture of a Stornoway Grey Deefer with black wings as well on the link)
Land Rover Defender Checkerplate Screw Kit (http://www.a2stainless.co.uk/Land-Rover-Defender-Checkerplate-Screw-Kit_AZI51.aspx?nh=2)
BTW the postage from Stig stays the same up to around 100 GBP worth of "bits"
Happy buying!
Cheers,
Lou

Hi Juddy!
I agree with you that the Patriot gear (pretty much everything they make) is probably some of the best in the world and if I was your side of the world I would have supported you guys without question.
The patriot ones are obviously thicker as well, but I've not managed to bend or dent the 3mm plate with my 100 odd kilograms. Unfortunately with the extra $100 and the cost of Australian post/ parcel service thrown in it would not be an economic option for us over here in the West.
The OP is in ACT and with the SS fasteners and gaskets thrown in it might be a better option to look at you guys.
Cheers,
Lou

Black on Stornoway grey looks superb, I think, but I undersand there's a big difference between Stornoway and Orkney. I still think it'd look great though...especially if you get black plate for the rear sections....protect the rear quarter from stone chips...

What you want to do is get them covered in mud and not worry about it ;)

I have a pair of Patriots from Juddy, I use them all the time to get on the roof rack as I do not have a ladder, there are many other uses for them like putting your tools on when working, taking photos as you will have seen in previous posts and just having a seat with a cold beer..
Definitely get some would be my advice, be careful putting them on though, make sure you get the holes lined up, I ballsed one of mine up, had to pop the riv-nut out and use a nut and washer on the back, was a real pain to access also. But they do look great!!
Black would look good on Grey, probably look good on most colours.. You can just the see the patriot ones on mine in the attached pic. I will add the KBX wingtop vents are a pain in the proverbial, I would avoid them.
