Hi - what is the tallest tyre I can fit to my 08 Puma with stock rims and suspension?

BTW - first tank in the new Puma went 465km on 46L inc around town, low-range, and mostly highway. I thought that was pretty good.

Cheers

Realistically, a 255/85/16 is your tallest option.

Stretching it a bit a 255/100/16 exists and would likely fit - bloody rare though...

I agree with n plus one, but the 255/85/16 might rub a bit on full lock (this appears to differ a bit from car to car).

This size is actually quite scarce in Australia outside the major centers, so it's usually the very well equipped (second spare etc) who run them as a touring tyre.

I've personally never seen the 255/100/16, but having run the older style BFG Muddies in the 255/85/16 myself, a tyre with a sidewall taller than that would cause all sorts of headaches.

Cheers,

Lou

Righto - so 255/85/16 is what I'll look for... Is that basically a 33inch equivalent?

They are around 840mm or 33.3". Only a few options in that size, Maxxis and BFG in muddies and Cooper ST (if still available) in AT. I find they do affect gearing slightly but don't rub.

Ok - there is so much range in the gearing hoping it is marginal. Bigger tyres won't hurt with the low gearing 1st...probably make it a little better around town, no?

Don't sweat the gearing, a Tdi pulls 255/85's without a problem.

You might even have a greater range in NZ, OS that size is available from Toyo, Dunlop and a few others too, it's just that here in Oz only Maxxis, BFG and Copper sell them.
The crazy thing is that Maxxis and BFG often sell out f that size, (I have no idea of the quantities they import) yet the other tyre companies reckon there's no market for them, so go figure.

I run 285/70/16 Kumho KL71 on mine. Under full flex and hard lock it will only just touch the flare corner.

On 0-offset rims too mind you.

That's $60/tyre cheaper (fitted) for the 762's than what I just paid here in the bush, so a good price.
