I stumbled upon a reasonably priced used Air Conditioning setup from a 2008 tdci Defender.

Does anyone know what else will be needed aside from items included in the below link?

I know I will need a bigger "nose" which I can get second hand and it also looks like I will need a longer belt.

I'm most concerned about wiring.

If it's a kit as they state, you should hit them up for everything including the dash switch etc. The wiring harness should be the same and it should (theoretically) just be a plug and play with the wiring if your car is of a similar vintage. just look into it before you dive in.

Why would anyone need a late model A/C kit. Wouldn't everything sold new since the early 90's have A/C as standard.

Do the later defenders have multiplexed wiring? if so you'll need a way to talk to the body computer.

The issues I can see are:

--it's in the UK ... postage $$$$$
--the condensor will be rotten .... they salt the roads over there
--where is the evaporator  Have they extracted it from the heater box?
--where are all the hoses
--by the time you get it out here, everything will have been "open" to the air for months ... taking up moisture.

I'd find any 4wd locally and modify a local A/C system to fit. The only real work would be sorting out the compressor mountings and fitting an evaporator into the heater box.

You could spend a lot less and get a much better A/C,
something like I did for my Td5 would work in a Puma, in this post

but don't Pumas come standard with A/C ???

In the UK and a few other places you can buy up to 5 variants of the Defender 90 alone... If you look at all the permeation's of Defender, you can buy anyone of up to 40 variants...

Top of the range XS with plush carpets, full leather (heated) seating, leather steering wheel, heated windscreens etc. Then on the bottom of the scale you've got a Defender shaped Transit van... (not really, but you get the drift:D).

Tika7mm over in NZ recently bought an '08 Puma without ABS and TC (import from the UK). If the car is not LRA it can have just about any number of bits in or out.

Cheers,

Lou

It was originally a UK defender so no AC...or vents :(.

It does come with the switch...not sure about the wiring.

I found the below on another listing for an aftermarket kit...I'm not sure if it is true.

"don't be tempted by 'take off' kits - unless (unlike earlier models) you want to buy a whole new '+AC option' complete wiring loom for your LR costing more than this kit! The ONLY way to get an 'add on' Aircon wiring loom on a TDCi is the special one included in this or similar kits."
