thanks all for coming along.

the gold coast weather caused a few changes and some decided to not camp, dropping trailers off due to the torrential rain.

we set off in the little jigger [what is this car's name?]
with the camper on behind, but the torrential rain hampered our progress and i bailed out.
returned home to ditch the trailer and go back, but the rain was so bad at home we decided to romp off in the disco.
so the v8 howled its way back to b'dsrt and we caught up with the mob after some fast tracking across the ditches, creek crossings and big puddles.
finally catching up just before the lunch break, without losing the cook in the bumps and slides.

thanks josh for naviguessing the route from flimsy phone instructions and for doing the trip sheet details,
thanks pete for collaring the dollars and sorting that with the pub.

the pie lady at the lunch stop was elated to see us and provided us with some wonderful pies and stuff.

after lunch we all headed off behind the v8 for a leasurely drive along various tracks to the pub.
the Rosevale Retreat Hotel.

camping arrangements were made and we set about looking under bonnets while the girls drank wine.

dinner was served and we enjoyed a good meal [note for future reference- grimace doesn't eat custard, strange that!]

as we didn't tow a bed we had to make tracks, so the mighty loud v8 was pointed for home, and we travelled just as fast as the lack of light would allow us,
something about the speed of light and speed of disco is appropriate here,
my v8 can outrun the available light from the headlights.

sadly we missed breakfast, but thanks to dj for organising that and whoever for cooking it.

I can't remember half of this trip! I do however have one sore ankle, a grazed shoulder and a clicking elbow... all on my left!

Highlights for me were the trail between Beaudesert and our lunch stop.
The tunes, the hat and the sunglasses!
The mad pool skills of our club members, couple of sharks in town.
The hens!
Driving Joshua's rangie home!

Great weekend, thanks Harry and Josh, the food was good as was the atmosphere at the pub. I was fairly dusty (to say the least when I got home) Steph took one look at me and laughed:p. Your a bad influence Grimace!!:D

Turned out to be a great trip even though I didn't finally decide to put the camping gear in till after 8 in the morning. Eventually decided that it wouldn't hurt to bring it home if we decided it was too wet to camp.

The trip up through Ripley Road was good, never even knew it was there, let alone driven on it. Didn't get the camera out until we were back on the bitumen though. But these couple of shots show why we were a little uncertain about camping (that's if anybody wasn't aware just how wet it was in Brisbane and the Gold Coast on Saturday :)).

We even had a rainbow after setting up camp at the pub. From the look of it it was still wet back to the east of us but we didn't care. About now some people were wishing they had bought the campers :).

On the way home a couple of us stopped at the Cunningham's Lookout, which is just to the west of Warrill View and from there you can see into the valley behind where Rosevale is and also the valley that the main highway runs through.

As usual, I was too disorganised to take any photos!
My first skinfull but not my last!
As always, great company, great food and great entertainment.
The drive was great, I also didn't know some of those roads existed.
The pie lady convinced me to have a pie instead of my almost soggy ham & salad roll (you all had the chance to buy it from me:p)
I have begun practising my pool for next year and collecting cowboy hats.

Patsy and I chickened out on the overnight camp bit and instead left after dinner and ventured back to the comfort of our own beds.
The part of the trip that we did (Day 1) was great. The normal happy convivial group of members turned up on Saturday morning and we all sat around at a couple of large tables at Maccas and discussed the weather amongst other things, whilst we waited to see whether our illustrious tour leader would make it. Eventually it was decided that he couldn't make it in time for the ETD so we upped camp and pressed on.
A couple of points I feel obliged to make here,
1/ We drove out of the miserable weather and the rest of the day turned out ideally for driving in a Series vehicle. No dust, well very little, and a very comfortable temperature.
2/ That has to be the best behaved convoy I have ever travelled in since being in the club, congratulations to both Josh and later in the day, Harry. A very comfortable and enjoyable drive, and in the afternoon I was right back towards the rear, and there was no hurry up/ stop that is the norm, just a nice gentle pace.
From a Series vehicle point of view I suppose it was a little disappointing that no S1s attended but even though the three that had nominated had all dropped out for one reason or another, there were some quite interesting other Series vehicles in attendance.
How often on a Series run do you come across 2 x 5 bearing 2.25l engines in the line up? This last trip they were the majority of all the 2.25l engines present, Daisy being the only 3 bearing engine there!

The lunch stop at Rosewood was a great bonus in that Judy the Pie Lady was still there when we got there and she did a roaring trade with pies and sausage rolls etc. So much so that on the Sunday when I was "home alone" I toasted and ate our pre-made sandwiches that were left over from Saturday.

Dave gave his rather unique vehicle a shakedown and spent the afternoon sorting out all the extras he has recently picked up to accessorise his roof top tent.
Dave's S3 88" little toy is far from normal, being powered by a turbo'd 300 diesel engine driving through a high speed transfer case. There are also a number of other interesting mods done to this vehicle and it is well worth a look.
You don't often see Range Rover or Disco owners using this method of unloading the roof rack but it is pretty well the norm for a series!

Pete and Sam ventured out in Sam's stage one v8 and Pete was even overheard to say that the gearbox wasn't all that bad. He was heard to whinge a bit about flat top utes and wet weather though.

The Ladies sat in the mandatory Ladies section and I believe told some interesting stories and gave some interesting demonstrations of toilet (or lack of) use when travelling through western Queensland.

Dinner was great, the camaraderie great and we both enjoyed the outing immensely. Patsy had a prior cultural engagement on Sunday (hence I wasn't involved) so not too long after dinner we bade farewell and fired up Daisy, the reliable S2a (3 bearing engine) and headed home, enjoying clear comfortable weather all the way home. Our rain gauge showed that we had 48 mm whilst we were away.

I can't remember being at the camp fire not one single bit. Think it had something to do with the coffee I had at maccas, certainly was not caused from excessive beer drinking!
