View Full Version : Evoque ride off-road vs RRC?

Quick question. If you drove across a mine site (think gravel roads, but rutted up by dozers, haul-trucks etc) in an Evoque, how would that compare to the same ride in a classic rangie?
Other soft-roaders tend to suck as they don't have the wheel travel. How does the Evoque go?

I think it would be firmer than a standard Rangie.

Me too, but I'm keeping an open mind.
If the Evoque ride is too jiggly, what am i left with? D4 with 19" rubber?
Wife hates the D4's.:D

Evoques are driven by women who want to be trendy and by The type of Men who wear tight white T-shirts ;)

Yes and another mate of mine says my wife is far too nice (and not orange enough) to drive an Evoque.:D
But I've never let stereotypes influence my decisions. Afterall, I drive rangerovers. Horrible leaky unreliable things apparently. Which still get less tool-time in a year than my brothers Q7 does while using less fuel, dripping less oil and tyres are a fraction of the cost. :wasntme:

I know what your saying..
It was just funny at the time when he said it we were at MLR and the exact demographic were the only ones in the Evoque area.
My wife and I had one for a day whilst my D4 was serviced.
She wants one, and I must say it was an impressive vehicle.

If we ever get one it would be as a replacement for a current small 4wd wagon. Planned replacement is several years out, but there is always the risk that a haul-truck or water cart drives into it and replacement is needed much sooner.
Comparing it with the likes of another Skoda Octavia Scout, Yeti, VW Tiguan etc. I've got a real rangie and always plan to, no point getting a lot of vehicles that are exactly the same.

Which may mean other range rover drivers are big girls. I drive an Evoque sand ride a Trumpy Street Triple. The evoque is surprised me how smooth it drive over ruts and poor 4wd tracks. Does well reverse out of soft muddy tracks which lead to an impassable water crossing.
Don't were tight tea shirts but don't wear your blue bond singlet either.
The evoque is not big enough for large family but great for a couple with kids working or no kids.
I've now done 30000km in 15 months in out SD4 Evoque - dirt roads and a few real 4wd tracks... fuel consumption is also great.
Don't judge a book by its cover just because you can't read. :D

Relax... Perhaps some Evening Primrose oil will make you less sensitive.
I did also say we liked the one we drove and the wife wants one... :)
And the speed triple bit was for what benefit?
At the least your garage has cute *little* toys parked in it :D
(You started it with the book/cover comment!)

And don't judge those who can't read when it's being said (typed) by those who can't spell or write correctly!!!
Are you a public servant? You sure act like you have a stick misplaced!
Loosen up, kick back and enjoy your Latté

Ex-public servant, ex-South Australian, Trumpy is main transport, Evoque is for weekend travelling and going bush.
Most LR & RR drivers in ACT/NSW seem very stuck-up, at least Evoque drivers, which are quite a few now, acknowledge each other on the roads.
Mmmmmm, latte.

Well, my wife has wanted an Evoque ever since they came out; mainly because it looks only like an Evoque!!!!!!
Recently she looked/test drove a number of other soft 4wds-- Jeep GC ( ahem, told her she was mad), Audi Q5 ( poorest ride and equipment level of them all);Renault Koleos ( cheapie, but not bad ( for a Nissan)), Peugeot 4007 ( better, and a few more mod cons), but they ALL look alike; you really have to look at grilles and badges to tell what it is? Similarly Tojo, Honda, VW, etc.
Well, as we had 2 cars to dispose of, Peugeot 407 V6 ( very sporty!) and Citroen C5 HDI ( most comfortable of them all, and for 8 years proved super reliable), bit the bullet and yep she "bought a Jeep";
No, just kidding.
Now a pretty red Evoque TD4 Pure in the garage.
So far she loves it; it's economical; quite decent ride; and better equipped than the $90K Audi Q5!
Parked next to my 2003 Td6 HSE and 1994 Soft dash LSE.
So now the Evoque is 6th RR in the family!
Must be completely mad?

Meant to add; went for TD4 vs SD4 as only 20 Nm torque difference ( and an extra exhaust pip!) but $4000 less; put that to the inevitable extras. Tech pack/ all leather/auto/THAT unique metallic red paint/ +her extras????of which there are PLENTY to choose from; started to wonder if a steering wheel was extra!
I see that can buy a power box from UK for under $200 and bumps TD4 110Kw to 140Kw; 400 Nm to 480! If the need ever arises.

Steady on mate, I live in Canberra! I'm a pesty, spend my life dealing with stinky possums and in roof voids baiting rats. Yep, a right stuck up snob I am LOL And hey, you seen my new Rangie, it only 29 years old! :D

If you looking at poogoe/citroen ... DON'T BUY A 4SPD auto ..... 6spd manual or auto (the Asian AM6 'box) is the only way to go. I'd only bother with a C5 myself if it was the X7 series ... you can get them with the 2.7V6 diesel used in Land Rovers  I bought a 407 6spd manual for my wife. I reckon the suspension under it is crap... Go the late model X7 C5.

After countless cars our 2015/6Citroen C4 Picasso is probably the best car we’ve ever owned and certainly won’t be the trade in.
