Recommended oil for TDV6

G'day all, can you please tell me which oil you would recommend for a TDV6 D3?

I have tried searching on this forum but have struggled to find much...

The correct answer will depend on the year model of your D3, and whether you have a diesel particulate filter (DPF) or not. What have you got?

I have a 2006 TDV6 HSE. I am not exactly sure on the type of filter but if you click on the link below, that is the new one I have just purchased.

If it is an early 2006 (built before August), then you should be ok with any of these:

Castrol Edge 5W30
Caltex Havoline 5W30
Shell Helix Ultra 5W40


I'm pretty sure the 2006 never had DPFs (which are a part of the exhaust system and get screwed if you use the wrong oil).

As LR recommend Castrol 5W30, I would suggest Castrol Edge 5W30 would be best for your situation.

LR specifically states there is to be no deviation from 5w30 so if you don't have a DPF any fully synthetic 5w30 will work well.

My 8a vin (2008MY) doesn't have a DPF and I've been using Penrite Enviro+ 5w30, changed at 10K intervals.

This is the only Penrite oil that matches the Land Rover/Ford oil specification recommended for the 2.7L TDV6 and 3.0L TDV6

MC2 934B is the Land Rover specification in your handbook.
