Hi guys,a couple of weeks ago i went to replace the front brake pads, got out the wheel nut cover removal tool and it was all broken around the edges, anyway new one arrived today and i cant pull the caps off, pushed on tool and pulled but they seem to be that tight,i had to put a small screwdriver down the sides to help release the tool before it broke, any ideas on to get the caps off? thanks

You only need to remove the cover from the locking nut, the one with a convex circle on it

All others do not remove very easy

And in fact they are made that way because, except for the locking nut, IT'S NOT NECESSARY TO REMOVE THEM. Just put your socket on over the S/S caps and away you go.

If the dimpled cap on the lock nut is hard to remove, use the brace to rotate it slightly until it feels loose. Then grip the end of the removal tool on the tabs and jiggle.

That's what I meant, probably could have been clearer :)

An even better solution is to ditch the locking nuts altogether, no more removing covers, breaking security sockets or being stranded because you can't get your wheel off tho fix a puncture

thanks for the replies, the covers on the lock nuts are actually gone anyway i didnt no you could leave the other wheel nut caps on to undo the nuts, i will give this a go on the weekend

Just to add, the lock nut adapter is a weak part and often splits. A lot of folk here have replaced the lock nut (1 per wheel) with a LR std wheel nut like the other 4 per wheel.

Good morning all.just a follow up on the wheel nuts, well i finally got around to change the brake pads? after picking up a set of new discs as well made a start on the wheel nuts and yep front ones all stuck:censored:so sprayed all the nuts with wd40 and managed to undo all the passenger side nuts, wheel off and you guessed it the screw holding on the disc brake is totally stuffed its that bad dosen't even look like a screw any more damm, anyway thought i might change the pads and look at discs another day.first better make sure i can get the drivers side nuts off ,3 off easy had to bash a socket on the locknut off it comes one to go and no way was it moving i have split the wheel wrench trying so on with a socket and large breaker bar still wont move then the outer case comes off and the nut is stuffed underneath edges all rounded:censored::censored:so looks like im up for 5 wheel nut replacements. to get the other nut off do i bash another socket on? im thinking its time to a Tyre place and see if they can remove it with a rattle gun and get the screws replaced on the discs as well.thankyou
