I bought a Chinese digital temp gauge and fitted it to my D2 TD5 . I had great sevice from one of these in my RRC and it seemed dead accurate , but then who knows. I drilled a bolt and fitted the sensor inside it in a spare boss on my Thor manifold just near the thermostat.

I placed the sensor on a bolt on the TD5 engine pick up bracket just behind the water outlet ( top hose ) to the radiator .
I checked the temp today against my Navacom Evo and it is 10-12C down on the Navacom temp.
Anyone know of a better place for the sensor that more matches the Navacom reading.
When I googled someone from another forum suggested the back of the engine but where on the back of theengine?

Should always try to read the rear...

It's often the warmest..

There is a threaded boss on the L/H side of the head towards the rear.
It's next to where the water pipe braket bolts on.
There are a few of using this spot for our Engine Savers:)

Thermostat housing bolt. Undo the bolt when engine cold and no pressure! The thread is not tapped into coolant jacket.
I sleeved in 6mm armaflex

That is where I have my Well-tempered sensor connected. It must be a good spot because the brown connection on the left of the outlet housing [ not thermostat ] is the engine coolant temp sensor. That is the point water leaves the engine, before going into the radiator. You will find the thermostat at the bottom of the radiator, the bottom hose [ radiator outlet] joins the top of the thermostat, and water flows thru the 'stat., exiting thru 2 hoses, the small one goes back to the radiator top hose, the large one to the water pump inlet. Thanks I thought about there but chickened on loosening the bolt in case I caused a leak. I will shift it to there.
