How to introduce the fold into an airspring

How do I introduce the fold into an Arnott Gen 3 rear airsping? I have a spare rear Gen 3 but at present it is fully extended and looks like the top half of a leg. I have wrestled with it a few times (I'm sure it keeps the neighbours amused :D) trying to get the fold into it in readiness, just in case it is ever needed as a spare, but, to date it still keeps its leg like shape..............

Any suggestions?

Don't try and fold... All airsprings are naturally extended... The fold is induced when said spring is in place and approx 1/4 of 2.x tonnes is allowed to gently settle on it as you release the jack...:D

And make sure air pressure is in there before lowering the car, otherwise it can fold incorrectly and break the bag I've been told.

Don't quite agree with you on that Hoges. The Gen III's are pretty comfortable in a semi-compressed state, which is how they are shipped.

To compress the air spring when deflated and extended, you just want to pump a bit of air in to the spring so when you compress it, it will fold over the bottom neatly.
